Muhammadu Kudu Abubakar
Muhammadu Kudu Abubakar Ubandoma III, Emir of Agaie (died 30 March 2014) was appointed Etsu (Ruler) of the Agaie Emirate, a traditional state based in Agaie in Niger State, Nigeria on 30 April 2004. Abubakar, who was 42 when appointed Emir, is the son of the 10th Emir of Agaie, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Ubandoma. He earned a Higher Diploma in Animal Health and Husbandry and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is grand patron of the Nuhu Lafarma (Education) Foundation, which promotes improved education in the Agaie Emirate. He is one of the promoters of formation of a new Edu State from parts of the current Niger and Kwara states as a homeland for the Nupe people, with capital at Bida. Agaie Emirate
The Agaie Emirate was a state created by Malam Baba, a Fulani warrior who conquered the Nupe people of the area in 1822. Its seat was the present town of Agaie in Niger State, Nigeria, and was subject to the Sokoto Caliphate. Baba's son Abdullahi was inaugurated as the first emir of Agaie in 1832. The Agaie Emirate comprised one part of the old Nupe Kingdom, the others being the Bida Emirate and the Lapai Emirate. Bida Emirate
The Bida Emirate is a traditional state in Nigeria, a successor to the old Nupe Kingdom, with its headquarters in Bida, Niger State. The head of the state is the Etsu Nupe, considered the leader of the Nupe people. History The old Nupe Kingdom was established in the middle of the 15th century in a basin between the Niger and Kaduna rivers in what is now central Nigeria. Early history is mostly based on verbally-transmitted legends. King Jibiri, who reigned around 1770, was the first Nupe king to become Muslim. Etsu Ma’azu brought the kingdom to its period of greatest power, dying in 1818. During that period the Fulani were gaining power across Northern Nigeria. Muazu Babangida Aliyu
Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu is a senior civil servant who was elected governor of Niger State, Nigeria in April 2007. He was reelected on 26 April 2011. In the March 2015 presidential and senate elections, Gov Aliyu failed in his senate race against David Umaru of the All Progressives Congress, who obtained 149,443 as against 46,459 votes for the governor. On April 11, 2015, he failed to win in his own polling unit in governorship and state assembly elections in polling unit 006 where Aliyu's PDP only obtained 100 votes against 361 votes for Kofar Danjuma Mainadi of the APC. Umar Baogo III
Umaru Bago Tafida III (born 1954) is the 12th Emir, Etsu, or traditional ruler of Lapai in Niger State, Nigeria appointed in July 2002. He succeeded Emir Alhaji Muhammadu Kobo, who died at the age of 92 after ruling for 48 years, and was appointed to the stool by the Niger State governor Abdulkadir Kure. Umaru's turbanning and presentation of staff of office was attended by Vice president Atiku Abubakar and former Military President Ibrahim Babangida. Lapai Emirate
The Lapai Emirate, today in Nigeria, is a traditional state that lies near the Gurara River, a tributary to the Niger River, formerly originally inhabited where Gbari People, and presently came under the power of Nupe people, covering roughly the same area as the modern Lapai local government area. In the 1790s the Nupe Kingdom was a rising power in the region and had taken Lapai from Oyo Empire, Oyo. However, with the onslaught of the Fulani Jihad their lands, including Lapai, were conquered by the Sokoto Caliphate. The people of the region became subject to the Hausa kingdom of Zazzau. After 1804 they came under the Fulani emirate of Zaria, part of the realm of the emir of Gwandu. Nupe People
The Nupe (traditionally called the ''Nupawa'' by the Hausas and ''Tapa'' by the neighbouring Yoruba) are an ethnic group native to the Middle Belt of Nigeria. They are the dominant ethnic group in Niger State and a minority in Kwara State. The Nupe are also present in Kogi State and The Federal Capital Territory. History The Nupe trace their origin to Tsoede who fled the court of Idah and established a loose confederation of towns along the Niger in the 15th century. The proximity of Nupe to the Yoruba Igbomina people in the south and to the Yoruba Oyo people in the southwest led to cross-fertilization of cultural influences through trade and conflicts over the centuries.
