Muhammad Shafi (dentist)
Muhammad Shafi (1915-1971) was a Bangladeshi surgeon who was killed in the Bangladesh Liberation war. Shafi is considered a "Martyr" in Bangladesh. Early life Shafi was born in Dighira, Hooghly, West Bengal, British India on 5 April 1915. He graduated from Hughli Zila High School in 1930 and from Hawrah Government College in 1932. He completed his degree in dentistry from Calcutta Dental College in 1936 and in 1942 he finished his MBBS from the same college. Career Shafi joined R. Ahmad Dental Laboratory as a dental surgeon and later in Calcutta Medical College. He had a private practice in Baubazar Street in Kolkata. After the Partition of India, he moved to Chittagong, East Pakistan. He established a private practice in Enayet Bazar. In 1964, he won the National Bank Literary Award for his book Jana-samkha O Sampad. In 1971, he supported the non-cooperation movement. Mirza Aslam Beg
General Mirza Aslam Beg ( ur, ; born 2 August 1931), also known as M. A. Beg, was a Pakistan Army officer, who served as the 3rd Chief of Army Staff from 1988 until his retirement in 1991. His appointment as chief of army staff came when his predecessor, President General Zia-ul-Haq, died in an air crash on 17 August 1988. Beg's tenure witnessed Benazir Bhutto as being elected Prime Minister in November 1988, and the restoration of democracy and the civilian control of the military in the country. Controversial accusations were leveled against him of financing the Islamic Democracy Alliance (IDA), the conservative and right-wing opposition alliance against left-wing PPP, and rigging subsequent general elections in 1990. Mushtari Shafi
Begum Mushtari Shafi (15 January 1938 – 20 December 2021) was a Bangladeshi writer, entrepreneur, women's leader and social organiser. Life and career Shafi was born on 15 January 1938 in West Bengal of the then British India. Her ancestral home is in Faridpur District. Her father's workplace was in Kolkata during the time of her birth. She worked as a ''Shobdo Sainik'' at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Shafi was selected an honorary fellow of Bangla Academy in 2016 for her contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War. Shafi died on 20 December 2021, at the age of 83 in Dhaka. The Mukti Bahini ( bn, মুক্তিবাহিনী, translates as 'freedom fighters', or liberation army), also known as the Bangladesh Forces, was the guerrilla resistance movement consisting of the Bangladeshi military, paramilitary and civilians during the Bangladesh Liberation War, War of Liberation that transformed East Pakistan into Bangladesh in 1971. Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra ( bn, স্বাধীন বাংলা বেতার কেন্দ্র, lit=Free Bengal Radio Centre) was the radio broadcasting centre of Bengali nationalist forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. This station played an important role in the liberation struggle, broadcasting the Declaration of Independence and increasing the morale of Bangladeshis during the war.
