Col (R) Muhammad Shabbir Awan was born on 11 May 1952 in Village Sambal, Samote Union Council, UC Samote, Kallar Syedan Tehsil Of Rawalpindi District He graduated from the University of Balochistan, Quetta. He is also a graduate of Command and Staff College, Quetta and obtained the Degree of BSc (Hons) in War Studies in 1986. Previous official position Lt. Col (R) Muhammad Shabbir Awan was commissioned in Pakistan Army in 1972. Tamgha-e-Imtiaz () also spelled as Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, is a state-organised honour of Pakistan. It is given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements. General elections were held in Pakistan on Saturday 11 May 2013 to elect the members of the 14th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) led by Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) led by President Asif Ali Zardari and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan.
