Muhammad Fneish
Muhammad Fneish ( ar, محمد فنيش) (born 1953) is a Shia Lebanese politician and member of Hezbollah. He represented Hezbollah in the Third Cabinet of Saad Hariri, serving as the Minister of Sports and Youth. Early life Fneish was born into a Shia family in Maaroub in 1953. Career Before dealing with politics Fneish worked as a teacher. He became a member of the Hezbollah's 15-member central committee. In 1992, he was elected as a member of parliament for Hezbollah representing Bint Jbeil. He also won the same seat in the elections held in 1996 and 2000. He also ran for the seat in the 2005 general elections and got the highest votes in Tyre, namely 154,056 votes, surpassing Nabih Berri by about 1,000 votes. He was energy minister from July 2005 to November 2006. Prior to his appointment as energy minister, he served as a municipal council member in Tyre. Lebanese Shia Muslims ( ar, المسلمون الشيعة اللبنانيين), historically known as ''matāwila'' ( ar, متاولة, plural of ''mutawālin'' [Lebanese pronounced as ''metouali'']) refers to Lebanese people who are adherents of the Shia Islam, Shia branch of Islam in Lebanon, which plays a major role along Lebanon's main Sunni, Maronite and Druze sects. Parliamentary elections were held in Lebanon on 7 June 2009 to elect all 128 members of the Parliament of Lebanon. Background Before the election, the voting age was to be lowered from 21 to 18 years, but as this requires a constitutional amendment, it did not happen before the election. Allocation of seats Following a compromise reached in the Doha Agreement in May 2008 between the government and opposition, a new electoral law was put in place, as shown in the table below. It was passed on 29 September 2008. Results Preliminary results indicated that the turnout had been as high as 55%. The March 14 Alliance garnered 71 seats in the 128-member parliament, while the March 8 Alliance won 57 seats. This result is virtually the same as the result from the election in 2005. Hussein Hajj Hassan ( ar, حسين الحاج حسن; born 1960) is a Lebanese politician and minister of industry. Early life and education Hajj Hassan was born into a Shia family in the Beqaa Valley in 1960. He holds a PhD in molecular biophysical chemistry, which he received from the University of Orléans, France in 1987. Political career and views Hajj Hassan is a member of the Lebanese Shia party Hezbollah. He ran on the latter's electoral list in Lebanon's 1996 general election and was elected MP of the Beqaa's Baalbeck/Hermel constituency. Saad El-Din Rafik Al-Hariri ( ar, سعد الدين رفيق الحريري, translit=Saʿd ad-Dīn Rafīq al-Ḥarīrī; born 18 April 1970) is a Lebanese-Saudi politician who served as the prime minister of Lebanon from 2009 to 2011 and 2016 to 2020.
