Muckadilla Creek flows from Mount Bindango to the north down to the south-east of Muckadilla to Mount Abundance, passing just west of the town. The Western railway line is a narrow gauge () railway, connecting the south-east and south-west regions of Queensland, Australia. It commences at Toowoomba, at the end of the Main Line railway from Brisbane, and extends west 810 km to Cunnamulla, passing through the major towns of Dalby, Roma and Charleville, although services on the 184 km section from Westgate to Cunnamulla have been suspended since 2011. History The name comes from the name of the mountain, which in turned was named by Surveyor-General Thomas Mitchell on 7 May 1846 because of the "abundance of pasture" in the area. Thomas Mitchell (explorer)
Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (15 June 1792 – 5 October 1855), surveyor and explorer of Southeastern Australia, was born at Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, Scotland. In 1827 he took up an appointment as Assistant Surveyor General of New South Wales. The following year he became Surveyor General and remained in this position until his death. Mitchell was knighted in 1839 for his contribution to the surveying of Australia. John McEwan Hunter
John McEwan Hunter (1863 – 18 April 1940) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Hunter was born in 1863 in Moreton Bay, off the coast of Queensland as his family was migrating from Scotland to Australia. He was the son of Daniel McEwan Hunter and his wife Jane and was educated at Redbank, Spring Creek and Clifton State Schools. He was for some years manager of a branch business for McLeish and Company in Roma before joining with other members of his family to open a general store in the Maranoa Region. On 2 June 1890 Hunter married Ellen Guthrie Moffat (died 1947) in Toowoomba and together had one daughter. Public life Hunter was an alderman in Roma and was the town's mayor in 1900. At the 1907 Queensland state election he won the seat of Maranoa, defeating the sitting Ministerial member, Thomas Spencer.
