Much Afraid
''Much Afraid'' is the second studio album by American Christian rock band Jars of Clay. It was released in 1997 by Essential Records. Following the charting success of the band's debut album, ''Much Afraid'' was moderately successful, but was unable to achieve the level of its predecessor. Background The title is a reference to Hannah Hurnard's 1955 novel '' Hinds' Feet on High Places'', whose main character was named Much Afraid. The album marked various musical and lyrical differences to its predecessor. "Fade to Grey" and " Frail" were both previously from the group's demo recording '' Frail'' in 1994. All other tracks from that demo were recorded for the debut album '' Jars of Clay'' in 1995. Both songs were changed significantly, especially "Frail", which was previously an instrumental piece and now contained lyrics. OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2002. It consists of lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Tedder, lead guitarist and violist Zach Filkins, rhythm guitarist Drew Brown, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle, drummer Eddie Fisher and keyboardist and violinist Brian Willett. The band achieved its first commercial success on Myspace as an unsigned act. In late 2002, after OneRepublic played shows throughout the Los Angeles area, several record labels approached the band with interest, but the band signed with Velvet Hammer, an imprint of Columbia Records. Biography Lowell was raised in Rochester, New York, where he attended McQuaid Jesuit High School. Lowell attended Greenville College as a musical studies major. While there, Lowell spotted another student wearing a T-shirt for the band Toad the Wet Sprocket. He introduced himself to this man whose name was Dan Haseltine, who was also studying music at Greenville. The two began making music with guitarist Steve Mason and eventually formed the band Jars of Clay. The group added a fourth member, Matt Bronleewe, after a short while, as an additional guitarist. Daniel Paul Haseltine (born January 12, 1973) is an American singer best known as lead vocalist for Christian alternative folk rock group Jars of Clay. Haseltine has performed vocals, piano, accordion, percussion and melodica, while with Jars of Clay. He has had different artistic titles, including songwriter, producer, film composer, music supervisor and art designer. Haseltine is also the founder of the non-profit organization, Blood:Water Mission, where he currently sits as part of the board of directors. He is a regular writer and speaker about worship music, HIV/AIDS in Africa, social justice and church reform. ''The White Elephant Sessions'' is a rarities and demo version album by American Christian band Jars of Clay, released in conjunction with the band's third studio album ''If I Left the Zoo''. Several of the tracks come straight from the demo recording sessions for ''If I Left The Zoo'', entitled the ''Tweed Horse Sessions''. The title and cover The title is a play on the fact that a white elephant is a rarity, and the cover of ''If I Left the Zoo'' had a grey elephant on it. This album depicts a similar cover, except that the background is primarily red where ''If I Left the Zoo''s background is predominantly blue and the elephant on the cover of this album is white and not grey (and the elephant is facing the other direction). A blooper is a short clip from a film or video production, usually a deleted scene, containing a mistake made by a member of the cast or crew. It also refers to an error made during a live radio or TV broadcast or news report, usually in terms of misspoken words or technical errors. Five Candles (You Were There)
"Five Candles (You Were There)" is a song written and performed by Jars of Clay. It is the second radio single from their 1997 studio album ''Much Afraid''. The song was initially written for the soundtrack to the motion picture ''Liar Liar'', starring Jim Carrey. However, the ending credits, when the song would have been played, were changed to an outtakes and bloopers reel, thus cutting the song from the film. A working title of the song during the writing and recording studio sessions was "The Wish", which fits in with the themes of ''Liar Liar'', just as the eventual title, "Five Candles", as the story of the film revolves around the wish Max made as he blew out the five candles for his fifth birthday. The song was later used in the 1998 Michael Keaton film, ''Jack Frost'', and was featured on that film's soundtrack.
