Mrs Thursday
''Mrs Thursday'' is a British television comedy-drama produced by Associated Television. It stars veteran British actress Kathleen Harrison as Alice Thursday, a Cockney charwoman who inherits £10 million and the controlling interest in a multinational company upon the death of her employer, as well as his Rolls-Royce and Mayfair mansion. Hugh Manning played Richard Hunter, Mrs. Thursday's butler, business advisor, and confidant. Reg Lye played Bill Lee. The series was devised by Ted Willis and featured scripts by Jack Rosenthal. Three series, thirty-eight episodes, of ''Mrs. Thursday'' were produced. Series One (13 episodes) was broadcast between March 15 and June 7, 1966; Series Two (13 episodes) between 27 December 1966 and 20 March 20, 1967; and Series Three (12 episodes) between 5 October and 22 December 1967. Ted Willis
Edward Henry Willis, Baron Willis (13 January 1914 – 22 December 1992) was an English playwright, novelist and screenwriter who was also politically active in support of the Labour Party. In 1941 he became the General Secretary of the Young Communist League, the youth branch of the Communist Party of Great Britain. Early life and War service Born in Tottenham, Middlesex, Willis described when he was leaving school at the age of fourteen: "I had a two-second 'career interview' with my Headmaster. He asked me what I wished to do for the future and I told him that I intended to become a writer. His response was a cackle followed by the remark: 'You will never make a writer in a hundred years. Stapleford Park
Stapleford Park is a Grade I listed country house in Stapleford, near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, England, which is now used as a hotel. It was originally the seat of the Sherard and Tamblyn families, later the Earls of Harborough and, from 1894, of the Gretton family, who would become the Barons Gretton. The house has developed to its present form in stages. The north wing was originally built for Thomas Sherard c.1500 and remodelled in 1633 by William and Abigail Sherard. The main H-plan range was built for Bennet Sherard, 2nd Baron Sherard c.1670 and remodelled by the 4th Earl of Harborough c.1776. The orangery was added c.1820 and additional ranges were added by architect John Thomas Micklethwaite for brewer John Gretton in 1894–98. Jack Morris Rosenthal (8 September 1931 – 29 May 2004) was an English playwright. He wrote 129 early episodes of the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'' and over 150 screenplays, including original TV plays, feature films, and adaptations. Early life Jack Morris Rosenthal was born into a Jewish family on 8 September 1931, in Cheetham Hill, Manchester. He was the younger of two sons to father Sam, a raincoat factory worker, and mother Leah (née Miller) Rosenthal. His parents were married in 1927 in Manchester, and were children of Russian Jewish immigrants. Rosenthal attended the Manchester Jews School on Derby Street, Cheetham Hill. Reg Lye
Reginald Thomas Lye (14 October 1912 – 23 March 1988), was an Australian actor who worked extensively in Australia and England. He was one of the busiest Australian actors of the 1950s, appearing in the majority of locally shot features at the time, as well as on stage and radio. Lee Robinson called him "one of the best character actors in Australia." He moved to England in the early 1960s, (also starring in television, such as ''Mrs Thursday'' and ''The Wednesday Play''), but returned to Australia when the film industry revived in the 1970s.
