Mr. Smithers
Waylon Joseph Smithers Jr., usually referred to as Mr. Smithers or simply Smithers, is a recurring fictional character in the animated sitcom ''The Simpsons'', voiced by Harry Shearer. He first appeared in "Homer's Odyssey", although his voice could be heard in the series premiere "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". He is the consummate executive and personal assistant of Springfield Nuclear Power Plant's owner Mr. Burns, and is usually treated unfairly. Smithers' loyalty and devotion to Mr. Burns was inspired from how numerous Fox executives and staff members acted towards Barry Diller. Smithers' first name (Waylon) was derived from that of puppeteer Wayland Flowers. The idea for Smithers' ambiguous sexual orientation came from Sam Simon. He proposed that Smithers should be gay and have an undying love for Mr. Burns. Smithers was colorized in his first appearance as black with blue hair. The Simpsons
''The Simpsons'' is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical depiction of American life, epitomized by the Simpson family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture and society, television, and the human condition. The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated shorts with producer James L. Brooks. He created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after his own family members, substituting Bart for his own name; he thought Simpson was a funny name in that it sounded similar to " simpleton". Lackey (manservant)
A lackey or lacquey, in its original definition (attested 1529, according to the ''Oxford English Dictionary''), is a uniformed manservant. The modern connotation of "servile follower" appeared later, in 1588 (''OED''). Etymology There are several theories about the origins of the word. By one theory, it is derived from Medieval French ''laquais'', "foot soldier, footman, servant", ultimately from Turkish ''ulak'', literally "a messenger". The word also exists in German, where ''Lakai'' denotes a liveried manservant in the services of a monarch or prince. John Swartzwelder
John Joseph Swartzwelder Jr. (born February 8, 1949) is an American comedy writer and novelist, best known for his work on the animated television series ''The Simpsons''. Born in Seattle, Washington, Swartzwelder began his career working in advertising. He was later hired to work on comedy series ''Saturday Night Live'' in the mid-1980s as a writer. He later contributed to fellow writer George Meyer's short-lived '' Army Man'' magazine, which led him to join the original writing team of ''The Simpsons'', beginning in 1989. A Hunka Hunka Burns In Love
"A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love" is the fourth episode of the thirteenth season of the American animated television series ''The Simpsons''. It first aired on the Fox network on December 2, 2001. In the episode, Mr. Burns falls in love with Gloria, a woman who is much younger than he is and who turns out to be Snake Jailbird's ex-girlfriend. The episode was written by John Swartzwelder, directed by Lance Kramer and dedicated to the memory of George Harrison. Homer Jay Simpson is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the American animated sitcom ''The Simpsons''. He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta and first appeared, along with the rest of his family, in ''The Tracey Ullman Show'' short "Good Night" on April 19, 1987. Ian Howes Maxtone-Graham is an American television writer and producer.
