Moyers, Oklahoma
Moyers is an unincorporated community located in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, United States. Demographics History A permanent settlement has existed at the site of modern Moyers since at least the 1880s. During the 1880s the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, more popularly known as the “Frisco”, built a line from north to south through the Choctaw Nation, connecting Fort Smith, Arkansas with Paris, Texas. The railroad paralleled the Kiamichi River throughout much of its route in present-day Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. Train stations were established every few miles to aid in opening up the land and, more particularly, to serve as the locations of section houses. Supervisors for their respective miles of track lived in the section houses to administer the track and its right-of-way. These stations also served as points at which the trains could draw water. Bill Moyers (born Billy Don Moyers, June 5, 1934) is an American journalist and political commentator. Under the Johnson administration he served from 1965 to 1967 as the eleventh White House Press Secretary. He was a director of the Council on Foreign Relations, from 1967 to 1974. He also worked as a network TV news commentator for ten years. Moyers has been extensively involved with public broadcasting, producing documentaries and news journal programs, and has won numerous awards and honorary degrees for his investigative journalism and civic activities. Robert Edison Moyers (November 12, 1919 – January 8, 1996) was an American orthodontist who was the founder of the Center of Human Growth and Development (CHGD) at University of Michigan and chair of its orthodontic program for 28 years. He made significant contributions towards orthodontics through the development of CHGD and interdisciplinary research involving craniofacial biology. He is credited for developing the Moyer's Mixed Dentition Analysis. Life He was born in Sidney, Iowa, among three other siblings and spent majority of his early childhood there. He moved to Iowa City in 1937, to start his college education at State University of Iowa. He also went to University of Iowa College of Dentistry and received his dental degree from there. Steve Moyers
Steve Moyers (born September 23, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri) is a retired soccer forward from the United States, who was a member of the American squad that competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. He spent eight seasons in the North American Soccer League, one in the Major Indoor Soccer League and one in the American Indoor Soccer Association. Professional Moyers grew up in Saint Louis and attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he spent one season, 1976, on the men's soccer team. In 1977, he attended a walk on trial with the St. Louis Stars of the North American Soccer League (NASL). He made the team, but saw time in only three regular-season games. At the end of the 1977 season, the Stars moved to Los Angeles and became the California Surf. Moyers moved with the team and saw his appearances rapidly increase.
