Movement For Democracy (Cape Verde)
The Movement for Democracy ( pt, Movimento para a Democracia, MpD) is a Christian democratic and liberal party in Cape Verde. Established in 1990, it was the ruling party from 1991 to 2001 and returned to power in the 2016 parliamentary election. Its members are nicknamed "" (the wind fans) in Portuguese, a reference to the party's logo. Movement For Democracy (Slovakia)
The Movement for Democracy ( sk, Hnutie za demokraciu) was a political party in Slovakia created in 2002 when it split from the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia. From 2002 to 2004 the first leader of the party was Ivan Gašparovič, who served as president of Slovakia from 2004 to 2014. The leader since 2004 was Jozef Grapa. In the parliamentary election of 17 June 2006, the party won 0.6% of the popular vote and lost parliamentary representation. Movement for Democracy was part of the Alliance for Europe of the Nations from 2002 to 2009. After 2010, the party became inactive, but not formally disbanded. Its shell was taken over by former founding member Peter Marček who renamed it to "Voice of the People" ''(Hlas Ľudu)'' in December 2018. The party was later renamed to Republic. The Network ( it, La Rete), whose complete name was Movement for Democracy – The Network (''Movimento per la Democrazia – La Rete''), was a political party in Italy led by Leoluca Orlando. History The party was formed on 24 January 1991 by Leoluca Orlando, mayor of Palermo and member of the Christian Democracy, who had broken with this party in 1991 due to its relations with the Mafia. The party was Catholic-inspired, while including several former members of the Italian Communist Party ( Diego Novelli, Alfredo Galasso, etc.), anti-Mafia and anti-corruption. It proposed an end to parliamentary immunity, greater judicial powers to tackle Mafia, and a parliament with fewer lawmakers. A democracy is a political system, or a system of decision-making within an institution or organization or a country, in which all members have an equal share of power.
