Mountbatten MRT Station
Mountbatten MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Circle line, located on the boundary of Kallang and Geylang, Singapore. Serving the Mountbatten subzone, the area and the station is named after British Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Supreme Allied Commander of the South East Asia Command who accepted the Japanese surrender of Singapore during the Second World War. Built at the junction of Mountbatten Road, Old Airport Road and Stadium Boulevard, Mountbatten station provides MRT access to residents of the Old Kallang Airport Estate and the numerous sports facilities at Kallang Sports Complex, including Kallang Field, Kallang Tennis Centre and Kallang Netball Centre. Kallang Field
Kallang Field is a sports field located in Kallang, Singapore. It is part of the Kallang Sports Complex, near where the Singapore Indoor Stadium and the Singapore Sports Hub are. History Kallang Field and the adjacent Tennis Centre are part of the Kallang Sports Complex. Currently home to Singapore’s cricketers, the field is also used for softball. Kallang–Paya Lebar Expressway
The Kallang–Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) is the third newest of Singapore's network of expressways. The southern (Kallang) section of the expressway opened first, on 26 October 2007, with the remaining (Paya Lebar) section opened on 20 September 2008. Connecting East Coast Parkway (ECP) in the south and Tampines Expressway (TPE) in the north-east, the six-lane (2x3) expressway extends for twelve kilometres, with approximately of main cut and cover tunnels running some 10 kilometres underground when fully completed. Built at a cost of approximately S$1.8 billion (USD$1 billion), it is the longest subterranean road tunnel in Southeast Asia. Nicoll Highway MRT Station
Nicoll Highway MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Circle Line (CCL) in Singapore. Located in the Downtown Core underneath Republic Avenue near the Kallang River, the station serves commercial and residential developments along Nicoll Highway, such as the Golden Mile Complex and The Concourse. The station is operated by SMRT Trains. First announced as part of the Marina MRT line (MRL) in 1999, the station was incorporated into Stage 1 of the CCL in 2001. During the construction, the tunnels linking to the original station site caved in along with the highway on 20 April 2004, killing four people. Following an investigation, which found human error and organisational failures as causes of the collapse, the station was relocated. Old Airport Road, Singapore
Old Airport Road () is a two-way road in Singapore, connecting Dunman Road in the east to the junction with Stadium Boulevard and Mountbatten Road in the west. As its name implies, the road was the eastern boundary of the former Kallang Airport, the first purpose-built civil airport in Singapore. After the closure of the Kallang Airport, the area around Old Airport Road was redeveloped into a residential estate, known today as the "Old Kallang Airport Estate". An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons.
