Mountain View is an urban community in the southeastern section of the city of San Diego. It is bordered by Mount Hope and Greenwood Memorial Park on the north, Interstate 15 and the neighborhoods of Stockton and Logan Heights on the west, Interstate 805 and Lincoln Park on the east, and Southcrest and National City on the south. Major thoroughfares include Imperial Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard. History The area comprising Mountain View was acquired by the city of San Diego in 1874, and Mountain View Park was dedicated in 1914. Demographics Mountain View is a diverse community. Sean Elo-Rivera is the president of the San Diego City Council. A member of the California Democratic Party, he represents City Council District 9, which includes the neighborhoods of City Heights, Kensington, Normal Heights, and East San Diego, and also includes San Diego State University. Southcrest is an urban community in the southeastern section of the city of San Diego. It is bordered by Mountain View on the north and east, Interstate 5 and the neighborhoods of Barrio Logan and Logan Heights on the west, and Shelltown on the south. Major thoroughfares include National Avenue and 40th Street. History Prior to the 1980s the Southcrest area was part of the neighborhood Shelltown and many residents still consider this area Shelltown. The neighborhood was to have been bifurcated by a planned freeway - California State Route 252 - which would have connected Interstate 805 to Interstate 5. This freeway has been deleted, and a portion of the previous right of way has been developed into the 252 Corridor Park. Interstate 805
Interstate 805 (I-805) is a major north–south auxiliary Interstate Highway in Southern California. It is a bypass auxiliary route of I-5, running roughly through the center of the Greater San Diego region from San Ysidro (part of the city of San Diego) near the Mexico–U.S. border to near Del Mar. The southern terminus of I-805 at I-5 in San Ysidro is less than north of the Mexican border. I-805 then traverses the cities of Chula Vista and National City before reentering San Diego. The freeway passes through the San Diego neighborhoods of North Park, Mission Valley, Clairemont, and University City before terminating at I-5 in the Sorrento Valley neighborhood near the Del Mar city limit. Logan Heights, San Diego
Logan Heights is an urban neighborhood in central San Diego, California. It is bordered by Interstate 5 on the south and west, Interstate 15 on the east, and Imperial Avenue on the north. It is part of the Southeastern Planning Area. History In 1871, Congressman John A. Logan wrote legislation to provide federal land grants and subsidies for a transcontinental railroad ending in San Diego. A street laid in 1881 was named Logan Heights after him, and the name came to be applied to the general area. Plans for a railroad never successfully materialized, and the area was predominantly residential by the start of the 20th century, becoming one of San Diego's oldest communities. Its transformation began in 1910 with the influx of refugees of the Mexican Revolution, who soon became the majority ethnic group.
