Mountain Springs, Texas
Mountain Springs is an unincorporated community in Cooke County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 100 in 2000. It is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. History Married to Mary Strickland, Joe R. Burch arrived in Texas in the early 1850s and erected a house in what would become Mountain Springs in 1856. Founded in 1875, the post office was housed in Burch's home. There is a spring beside his house on a slope, which is why the name Mountain Springs (or Mountain Spring) was chosen. A store was opened by Ed Runyon approximately 2½ miles south of Burch's cabin in 1877, and the post office was relocated there as well. With 150 residents in 1892, the hamlet was said to have peaked in its development in the 1890s. Valley View Independent School District (Cooke County, Texas)
Valley View Independent School District is a public school district based in Valley View, Texas (USA). In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. History A two-story brick school was built in 1902-03 when the district was first formed, located on the north side of the town square. A larger school was built in 1938 on the south side of the town. The building is still in use as part of the elementary school. It has been renovated to restore the original features of the building. The original footprint of the school features a maintained decorative sandstone perimeter wall and bleachers, originally built by the Works Progress Administration in 1932-33. It was preserved during campus renovations circa 2015. The district grew during the time of school consolidation in the early to mid 20th Century. Gainesville, Texas
Gainesville is a city in and the county seat of Cooke County, Texas, United States. Its population was 16,002 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Texoma region and is an important Agri-business center. History Founded in 1850, the city of Gainesville was established on a tract of land donated by Mary E. Clark. City residents called their new community "Liberty", which proved short-lived, as a Liberty, Texas, already existed. One of the original settlers of Cooke County, Colonel William Fitzhugh, suggested that the town be named after General Edmund Pendleton Gaines.
