Mountain River
A mountain river is a river that runs usually in mountains, in narrow, deep valley with steep banks, rocky stream bed, and accumulated rock debris. Mountain rivers are characterized by high slope and flow velocity, insignificant depth, frequent rapids and waterfalls, as well as dominated washed out processes. The gradient of a mountain river is calculated at 60–80 m/km in upper stream and 5–10 m/km in lower. More precisely it is greater than or equal to 0.002 m/m along most of its stream length. Speed of stream is measured at 1 to 4.5 m/s and higher. Mountain rivers have significant hydro energy producing potential and in arid conditions often used for irrigation. Mountain River (Northwest Territories)
The Mountain River is a tributary of the Mackenzie River in Canada's Northwest Territories. Its source is in the Mackenzie Mountains close to the watershed border with Yukon. It flows eastward, joining the Mackenzie River just south of the Arctic Circle. The river flows about , dropping over over its course, with large volume rapids, fast current, and six canyons. The upper half of the river is surrounded by mountains which reach heights of over , with rock colours of buff, grey, cinnamon, green, and maroon. Wildlife includes caribou, moose, wolf, Dall sheep, grizzly bear, and black bear. It is considered an excellent but difficult wilderness canoeing river. Mountain River, Tasmania
Mountain River is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Huon Valley in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about north-east of the town of Huonville. The 2016 census recorded a population of 559 for the state suburb of Mountain River. The locality increasingly is a lifestyle destination, being only about 30 minutes south of the Tasmanian capital Hobart by road. Neighboring localities are Grove, Crabtree, Lower Longley, Lucaston, Collinsvale and Lachlan. Mountain River is named for a stream that rises in the Wellington Range and flows through the Mountain River and Huon valleys to join the Huon River near Huonville.
