Mountain Home Records
Mountain Home Records is a record label based in Arden, North Carolina specializing in bluegrass music. History Crossroads was launched in 1984 as a recording studio, Tim Surrett and Mickey Gamble started Mountain Home as a subsidiary label in 1993 at first to release bluegrass gospel music. Soon the label broadened its scope to include secular music, as well. At the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards, Mountain Home artists received six awards. At the 2017 IBMA Awards, Mountain Home artists garnered 20 award nominations. Pisgah Ridge Records, an imprint of Mountain Home Records established in 2012, is dedicated to special projects and development of new artists. Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music The term American folk music encompasses numerous music genres, variously known as ''traditional music'', ''traditional folk music'', ''contemporary folk music'', ''vernacular music,'' or ''roots music''. Many traditional songs have been sung ... that developed in the 1940s in the Appalachian region of the United States. The genre derives its name from the band Bill Monroe, Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. Like Country music, mainstream country music, it largely developed out of Old-time music, old-time string music, though in contrast, bluegrass is traditionally played exclusively on Acoustic music, acoustic instruments and also has roots in traditional English, Scottish, and Irish Ballads, Irish ballads and dance tunes as well as in blues and jazz. Doyle Lawson
Doyle Lawson (born April 20, 1944) is an American traditional bluegrass and Southern gospel musician. He is best known as a mandolin player, vocalist, producer, and leader of the 6-man group Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Lawson was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Early life Doyle Lawson was born in Fordtown, Sullivan County, Tennessee, the son of Leonard and Minnie Lawson. The Lawson family moved to Sneedville in 1954. Lawson grew up listening to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights. This is where he heard mandolinist Bill Monroe, the "founding father" of bluegrass, and his band ''the Blue Grass Boys''. Lawson became interested in playing the mandolin around the age of eleven so his father borrowed a mandolin from Willis Byrd, a family friend and fellow musician. Donna Ulisse
Donna Ulisse is an American country music and Bluegrass music, bluegrass singer-songwriter. Signed to Atlantic Records in 1991, she released her debut album, ''Trouble at the Door'', that year and two singles which charted on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs, Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. She appeared on national TV shows ''Hee Haw'', ''Nashville Now'', ''Crook & Chase'', and NBC's ''Hot Country Nights''. Ulisse's debut album ''Trouble at the Door'' charted the singles "Things Are Mostly Fine" and "When Was the Last Time". The former received a positive review in ''Cash Box'' magazine which stated that she "generates a soothing ballad quilted with a powerful force of emotion and inspiration". After leaving Atlantic Records in the early 1990’s, Ulisse took some time off and concentrated on song writing, however she did make some appearances.
