Mountain Home Records
Mountain Home Records is a record label based in Arden, North Carolina specializing in bluegrass music. History Crossroads was launched in 1984 as a recording studio, Tim Surrett and Mickey Gamble started Mountain Home as a subsidiary label in 1993 at first to release bluegrass gospel music. Soon the label broadened its scope to include secular music, as well. At the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards, Mountain Home artists received six awards. At the 2017 IBMA Awards, Mountain Home artists garnered 20 award nominations. Pisgah Ridge Records, an imprint of Mountain Home Records established in 2012, is dedicated to special projects and development of new artists. Bluegrass Music
Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music The term American folk music encompasses numerous music genres, variously known as ''traditional music'', ''traditional folk music'', ''contemporary folk music'', ''vernacular music,'' or ''roots music''. Doyle Lawson
Doyle Lawson (born April 20, 1944) is an American traditional bluegrass and Southern gospel musician. He is best known as a mandolin player, vocalist, producer, and leader of the 6-man group Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Lawson was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Early life Doyle Lawson was born in Fordtown, Sullivan County, Tennessee, the son of Leonard and Minnie Lawson. The Lawson family moved to Sneedville in 1954. Lawson grew up listening to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights. This is where he heard mandolinist Bill Monroe, the "founding father" of bluegrass, and his band ''the Blue Grass Boys''. Lawson became interested in playing the mandolin around the age of eleven so his father borrowed a mandolin from Willis Byrd, a family friend and fellow musician. Donna Ulisse
Donna Ulisse is an American country music and Bluegrass music, bluegrass singer-songwriter. Signed to Atlantic Records in 1991, she released her debut album, ''Trouble at the Door'', that year and two singles which charted on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs, Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. She appeared on national TV shows ''Hee Haw'', ''Nashville Now'', ''Crook & Chase'', and NBC's ''Hot Country Nights''. Ulisse's debut album ''Trouble at the Door'' charted the singles "Things Are Mostly Fine" and "When Was the Last Time". The former received a positive review in ''Cash Box'' magazine which stated that she "generates a soothing ballad quilted with a powerful force of emotion and inspiration". Adam Steffey
Adam Steffey (born November 24, 1965) is an American mandolin player, best known for playing in the bluegrass and old-time styles. He spent time as a member of bands such as Alison Krauss & Union Station, Mountain Heart, Lonesome River Band, the Dan Tyminski Band, the Boxcars, and the Isaacs. He was most recently a member of the Highland Travelers, which announced on November 15, 2018 that they were disbanding, with Steffey pursuing an alternative profession other than music. However, his retirement from music was short-lived, as he joined the band Volume Five just a few months later. Steffey has also performed with such artists as Kenny Chesney, Clint Black, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, the Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, Rhonda Vincent, Ronnie Bowman, Jim Mills, and others. Larry Sparks (born September 25, 1947) is an American Bluegrass singer and guitarist. He was the winner of the 2004 and 2005 International Bluegrass Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year Award. 2005, won IBMA for Album of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year for his album "40," celebrating his 40th year(2003) in bluegrass music. Biography Sparks was born and raised in Lebanon, Ohio. His family originated from Jackson County, Kentucky in the Appalachians. Jerry Salley
Jerry Salley is an American country and bluegrass singer-songwriter. Salley won SESAC's 2003 "Country Music Songwriter of the Year" award. Salley has been writing and singing in Nashville, Tennessee since 1982. To date, he has had 300 songs recorded in his career, including by Reba McEntire (" I'm Gonna Take That Mountain"), Wild Rose (" Breaking New Ground"), John Anderson (" I Fell in the Water"), Wade Hayes (" How Do You Sleep at Night"), and ten (10) top twenty gospel songs. Tony Rice
David Anthony Rice (June 8, 1951 – December 25, 2020), known professionally as Tony Rice, was an American guitarist and bluegrass musician. He was an influential acoustic guitar player in bluegrass, progressive bluegrass, newgrass and acoustic jazz. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Lonesome River Band
The Lonesome River Band is an American contemporary bluegrass band. The band has released 15 recording projects since its formation in 1982. Lonesome River Band is led by Sammy Shelor who is a member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame and a 5-Time International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year Award recipient. The band has experienced numerous personnel changes over the years, and has not included an original member since Tim Austin left the band in 1995 to focus on Doobie Shea Records. Chris Jones is an American Bluegrass music, bluegrass singer, guitarist, songwriter, and broadcaster, singing in a baritone voice. He fronts the Night Drivers. Biography Jones started out in Brooklyn, New York, where his mother was a singer and actress. His uncle played Scruggs-style and clawhammer banjo.
