Mountain Fair
Mountain Fair is a summer arts and music fair held annually in Sopris Park in Carbondale, Colorado. It has been held annually during the last weekend of July since 1972. Each year between 15,000 and 20,000 people attend the event over the course of the three days that it is held. The event's sponsoring organization is Carbondale Arts, a non-profit organization supporting the arts in Carbondale. History Mountain Fair was started by Laurie Loeb as part of Colorado's state Chautauqua in 1972. Booth displays included Native American weavings, local Boy Scouts sold seed and corn necklaces and Colorado Rocky Mountain School sold gyros. About 800 people attended the inaugural fair. The events sponsoring organization, the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities (later changed to Carbondale Arts), was formed in 1974. Zero Waste
Zero waste is a set of principles focused on waste prevention that encourages redesigning resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The goal of this movement is to avoid sending trash to landfills, incinerators, or the ocean. Currently, only 9% of global plastic is recycled. In a zero waste system, the material will be reused until the optimum level of consumption is reached. The definition adopted by the ''Zero Waste International Alliance'' (ZWIA) is: Zero Waste: The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse and, recovery of all products, packaging, and materials, without burning them and without discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health. KDNK
KDNK (88.1 FM) is a community access station broadcasting an eclectic format of music and local news in western Colorado in the United States. The station serves Carbondale, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, and other parts of the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond through its main transmitter and a series of mountain-top translators stretching from Vail to Leadville. The station is owned by Carbondale Community Access Radio, Inc. Station history The original idea for KDNK came from Lee Swidler, who placed an ad in the local newspapers looking for volunteers to help start a community radio station. Among the first to volunteer were Bruce Stolbach, Bill Phillips, Brian Vancil, Jim Groh, Brenda Jochems, Pat Noel, Wick Moses, and Marple Lewis, who met in Swidler's locksmith shop at night to plan their strategy. MarchFourth Marching Band now known as MarchFourth! is an American musical and performance group based in Portland, Oregon. They perform mostly instrumental music, combined with a visual performance by stiltwalkers, acrobatics and hooping. They have toured Germany, The Netherlands, France, British Columbia, China and the United States. MarchFourth performs mostly original works and occasional cover songs. The name derives from the date of the band's creation, March 4, 2003, Fat Tuesday. Within two months of their first show, the local press had already coined a new nickname for the act: M4. MarchFourth consists of a horn section (trombones, trumpets, saxophones), a percussion section, electric bass guitar, and electric guitar as well as stiltwalkers, acrobats and dancers. La Sonora Dinamita is a Mexican- Colombian musical group that plays cumbia, a Tropical music genre from Colombia but popular throughout Latin America. As one of the first Cumbia groups to reach international success, it is credited with helping to popularize the genre throughout Latin America and the world. The original orchestra was formed in 1960 in Cartagena de Indias under the direction of bandleader Lucho Argaín. Brave Combo is a polka/rock/worldbeat band based in Denton, Texas. Founded in 1979 by guitarist/keyboardist/accordionist Carl Finch, they have been a prominent fixture in the Texas music scene for more than thirty-five years. Their music, both originals and covers, incorporates a number of dance styles, mostly polka, but also some Latin American and Caribbean styles like norteño, salsa, rumba, cha-cha-cha, choro, samba, two-step, cumbia, charanga, merengue, ska, etc. As part of their perceived artistic mission to expand the musical tastes of their listeners, they have often played and recorded covers of well-known songs in a style radically different from the original versions. Blue Highway is an American contemporary bluegrass band formed in 1994 and based in Tennessee. Carbondale, Colorado
The Town of Carbondale is a home rule municipality located in Garfield County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 6,434 at the 2020 United States Census. Carbondale is a part of the Glenwood Springs, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town is located in the Roaring Fork Valley, downstream from Aspen and upstream from the mouth of the Roaring Fork River at Glenwood Springs. The town proper sits on the south bank of the river, at the confluence of the Crystal River.
