Mount St Mary's Catholic High School (Leeds)
Mount Saint Mary's School is a Roman Catholic secondary school in Leeds, England. History Mount Saint Mary's School was founded in 1853 by the Sisters Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Father Robert Cooke, OMI, looked to the Sisters Oblates, who sent four sisters to establish a convent and school in the cellar of their convent. Many pupils were girls who worked in local flax mills and factories. By 1858 the sisters had raised enough funds to build a convent next to Mount Saint Mary's Church. More fundraising by the Sisters soon produced the £800 needed for new school buildings that were erected next to the Convent. It became a girls' Secondary Modern in 1946, at the same time as St Michael's College became a Grammar School. In 1978, Mount St Mary's and St Michael's College both became comprehensives. Voluntary Aided School
A voluntary aided school (VA school) is a state-funded school in England and Wales in which a foundation or trust (usually a religious organisation), contributes to building costs and has a substantial influence in the running of the school. In most cases the foundation or trust owns the buildings. Such schools have more autonomy than voluntary controlled schools, which are entirely funded by the state. David Doherty (born 28 January 1987 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England) is an English rugby union footballer for the Yorkshire Carnegie in the RFU Championship, as a fullback or on the wing and he can also operate in the centre's. He joined Wasps after Leeds Tykes were relegated from the 2005-06 Guinness Premiership. He is a former rugby league junior with the Leeds Rhinos, but decided to pursue a career in the 15 a-side code. John Grogan (UK Politician)
John Timothy Grogan (born 24 February 1961) is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Selby between 1997 and 2010 and for Keighley between 2017 and 2019. He is currently chair of the Mongolian–British Chamber of Commerce (MBCC). Colin Burgon
Colin Burgon (born 22 April 1948) is a British Labour Party politician who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Elmet from 1997 to 2010. Early life Colin Burgon was born in Leeds to Catholic, Labour-supporting parents. His mother, Winnie, was a school secretary; his father, Tommy, was a tailor; and his brother Terence also became a teacher. He was educated at St Charles R.C. Junior School and passed the eleven-plus exam, enabling him to attend St Michael's Catholic College in Woodhouse. In later life, Burgon said that alighting the bus wearing a grammar school uniform in Gipton made him aware of the class system and made him "deplore structures that inherently deny opportunity to people". Darren Cullen (born 1983 in Leeds, England) is a British-Irish artist and activist whose artwork satirises topics ranging from the insidious nature of advertising, from the culpability of the "Santa lie" to armed forces recruitment propaganda. In 2014, his anti-army recruitment comic 'Join the Army' was added to the Victoria and Albert Museum permanent collection. Art Cullen came to prominence as a student in 2005 when his plan to erect a billboard that attacked the commercialisation of Christmas was scrapped.
