Mount Sion GAA
Mount Sion ( ga, Cnoc Sion) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Waterford City, County Waterford, Ireland. It was founded by teachers in the school of the same name. Although technically separate from the school, the club still maintains a close relationship with the school, sharing the same sports facilities in the city. The club fields teams in both the Waterford Hurling and Gaelic football championships and has had many famous players, including John Keane, Philly Grimes, Tony Browne and Ken McGrath. The club is mainly concerned with the game of hurling and is the most successful in Waterford with 35 county title wins, although they did win 5 county football titles back in the 1950s. They have also won 2 Munster Senior Hurling titles, in 1981 with victory over Limerick club South Liberties (3-9 to 1-4) and in 2002 beating Sixmilebridge of Clare (0-12 to 0-10). The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sports, amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Austin Gleeson
Austin Gleeson (born 27 June 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Mount Sion and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a centre-forward but can also be deployed as a centre-back. He is one of the two hurlers to ever win young hurler of the year and hurler of the year in the same year, with him winning the honours at the age of 21 in 2016 and Tony Kelly being the first to accomplish the achievement at the age of 19 in 2013. He is the younger brother of Jessica Gleeson, the Republic of Ireland women's national team soccer player. Waterford Senior Hurling Championship
The Waterford Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Waterford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1897 for the top hurling teams in the county of Waterford in Ireland. The series of games are played during the spring, summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Walsh Park in October. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently features a group stage followed by a knock-out stage. The Waterford County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship. The winners of the Waterford county final join the champions of the other hurling counties to contest the provincial championship. Brian Greene
Brian Randolph Greene (born February 9, 1963) is a American theoretical physicist, mathematician, and string theorist. Greene was a physics professor at Cornell University from 19901995, and has been a professor at Columbia University since 1996 and chairman of the World Science Festival since co-founding it in 2008. Eoin McGrath
Eoin McGrath (born 2 November 1980) is an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Waterford senior team. He joined the team in 2002 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement in 2012. Son of former hurler Pat and younger brother of current selector Ken, McGrath was a stalwart on the Waterford team for a decade. He has won four Munster winners' medals and one National League winners' medal. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level McGrath is a Munster medalist with Mount Sion. Pat McGrath (Waterford Hurler)
Patrick "Pat" McGrath (born 1953) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a midfielder for the Waterford senior team. Born in Waterford, McGrath first made an impression on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he linked up with the Waterford minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior panel for the 1970 championship. McGrath went on to play a key role for Waterford for sixteen years, however, he enjoyed little success during his inter-county career. He was a Munster runner-up on two occasions. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team at various times throughout his career, McGrath won two Railway Cup medals. Frankie Walsh
Frankie Walsh (1936 – 28 December 2012) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward at senior level for the Waterford county team. Walsh made his first appearance for the team during the 1956 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1970 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, three Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. In 1959 Walsh captained the team to the All-Ireland title. At club level Walsh had a lengthy career with Mount Sion, winning twelve county club championship. In retirement from playing Walsh became involved in team management. He trained the Waterford senior hurling team in the early 1970s before later serving as manager of the Mount Sion senior hurling team in the early 1990s. Martin Óg Morrissey
Martin Óg Morrissey (born 1934) is an Irish former hurler, Gaelic footballer and selector. At club level he played as a dual player with Mount Sion, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Waterford teams. Playing career Morrissey first played hurling to a high standard as a student at Mount Sion CBS. His performances there earned selection to the Munster Colleges inter-provincial team in 1951, while two years later he captained the college's senior team to their Harty Cup triumph. Morrissey's club career began at minor level with the Mount Sion juvenile section, with whom he won Waterford MHC medals in 1949 and 1950.
