Mount Sinai School District
The Mount Sinai School District is a United States educational division of the Mount Sinai, New York community in the Town of Brookhaven on the north shore of Long Island. Established in 1870, the district oversees three schools that serve approximately 2,200 students located in a six square mile area. The Board of Education for the district consists of seven members, including a president and a vice-president. The 2020-2021 budget was about $61,000,000. The location of the original school building is unknown; however, tradition places it on North Country Road east of Mt Sinai Coram Road. The second one-room school was built in 1870 on a half acre of land on the southeast corner of North Country and Mt Sinai Coram Road and in 1908 a second classroom was added. Mount Sinai, New York
Mount Sinai is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located within the Town of Brookhaven, in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 12,118 at the 2010 census. The hamlet is located on the North Shore of Long Island. Mount Sinai was first settled in the 1660s and was known by the name of ''Old Mans'' until a name change in the 1840s. Initially an agricultural hamlet, it transitioned into a popular resort town in the late-19th century and developed into a suburb of New York City in the mid-20th century. Brookhaven, New York
The Town of Brookhaven is the most populous of the ten towns of Suffolk County, New York, United States. Part of the New York metropolitan area, it is located approximately 50 miles from Manhattan. It is the largest of the state of New York's 932 towns by area (when water area is included), and the second most populous after the Town of Hempstead. The first settlement in what is now Brookhaven was known as Setauket. Founded as a group of agricultural hamlets in the mid-17th century, Brookhaven first expanded as a major center of shipbuilding in the 19th century. The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society requires some sort of service to the community, school, or other organizations. The time spent working on these projects contributes towards the monthly service hour requirement. Joseph Patrick Dwyer
Joseph Patrick Dwyer (September 28, 1976 – June 28, 2008) was an American soldier, who became famous for a photograph of him helping an ailing Iraqi boy. Dwyer had enlisted in the United States Army after September 11 attacks, 9/11 and went on to serve as a combat medic in the 3rd Infantry Division (United States), 3rd Infantry Division. Dwyer died on June 28, 2008. On June 28, Mr Dwyer, 31, called a taxi to take him to a hospital near his home in Pinehurst, North Carolina, after earlier taking prescription pills and inhaling fumes from a computer cleaner aerosol. Philip Scholz (born April 12, 1988) is an author and a former American Paralympic swimmer. Being completely blind, he is classified in the S11 category of blind swimmers. Originally from Munich, Germany, Scholz came on to the international stage in December 2007 in College Park, Maryland. Early life Philip Scholz was born in Munich, Germany, to parents Thomas and Ariane Scholz. At a young age, Philip was diagnosed with Stickler Syndrome, a genetic defect that can cause problems with the ears, eyes, throat, and joints. Philip went blind in his left eye at the age of six due to retinal detachments, brought on directly by Styckler Syndrome.
