Fleming Point
Fleming Point is a rocky promontory in the U.S. state of California. It is situated in Albany, on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay. Albany Bulb is an extension of the point, having been formed in the 1960s from construction debris. History Fleming Point is named after John T. Fleming who lived in the area in 1853, having bought the land from Jose Domingo Peralta. In the 19th century, it was the site of the Giant Powder Company and Judson Dynamite and Powder Company. The Giant plant suffered two major accidental explosions, one in 1880 and another in 1892. Explosives plants dominated the Albany waterfront until 1905 when they were replaced with somewhat less dangerous chemical factories. By the first decade of the 20th century, it was used by residents of Berkeley as a garbage dump, one of the reasons the City of Albany decided to incorporate in 1908. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. Bulgarian names in Antarctica Geographical names in Antarctica reflect the history and practice of Antarctic exploration. Devene Point
Devene Point ( bg, нос Девене, ' \'nos 'de-ve-ne\) is the narrow rock-tipped point projecting 600 m westwards into Dallmann Bay, and forming the northeast side of the entrance to Buragara Cove on the west coast of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. It was formed as a result of the retreat of Rush Glacier near the start of the 21st century. The point is named after the settlement of Devene in Northwestern Bulgaria. Mount Imhotep is a mountain rising near the head of Hippocrates Glacier in the southern part of Brabant Island, in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. It was first mapped by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition under Gerlache, 1897–99. Sarnegor ( bg, Сърнегор) is a village in southern Bulgaria, located in the Municipality of Brezovo, Plovdiv Province. As of 15th of June 2020, the village has a population of 78 people with a current address registered there. Geography Sarnegor village is located at the foothills of the Sredna Gora mountain range, at an altitude of 430 meters above sea level. History and Culture During World War II, on the 26rd of June 1944 a US bombardier aircraft B-17 crashed with sergeant Harold James piloting it. Chased by the authorities, the pilot was captured near Sarnegor and brought in the village for trial. Bulgarian partisans attacked the village and took the pilot. James spends time with his saviors before returning to the United States. In 2013, the population raised their concern due to the lack of a postal office, police officers or public transport in the area. The public transport of the village has declared bankruptcy. Solvay Mountains
The Solvay Mountains are a mountain range that rises to 1590 m (Cook Summit) and extends in an ENE–WSW direction in the south part of Brabant Island, in the Palmer Archipelago of Antarctica. They were discovered by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition of 1897–99, under Adrien de Gerlache, and named by him for Ernest-John Solvay (1895-1972), the recently-born grandson of Ernest Solvay, who sponsored the expedition. The name originally extended along the entire east coast of the island but has been limited to the prominent mountains in the south, while the principal group of mountains farther north was subsequently named Stribog Mountains, separated from Solvay Mountains by Aluzore Gap. Sidell is a village in Sidell Township, Vermilion County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Danville, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 617 at the 2010 census.
