Mount Royal Cougars
The Mount Royal Cougars are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Cougars field eight varsity teams with four men's teams and four women's teams that compete in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association of U Sports. The Cougars were previously members of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association prior to the move to CIS (since renamed U Sports) in 2012. Varsity teams Men's basketball The Cougars men's basketball program has yielded two national championship teams as members of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association, winning in 1979 and in 2009. Upon moving to the Canada West conference in 2012, the Cougars saw some success in the Explorers division in 2015 and 2016, but did not qualify for the playoffs until 2019 where they lost the play-in game to the Regina Cougars. Mount Royal University
Mount Royal University (MRU) is a public university in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. History Mount Royal University was founded by Alberta provincial charter by the Arthur Sifton government on December 16, 1910 and officially opened on September 8, 1911. Originally "Mount Royal College", the institution was the brainchild of Calgary Reverend George W. Kerby (1860-1944) who sought an opportunity for higher education for the benefit of young people from rural homes in the area. The provincial charter as presented in the legislature by R. B. Bennett was titled "Bill 48, ''An Act respecting the Calgary College''", however Premier Sifton, Kerby and others agreed not to use Calgary for the name of the new college. 2020 U Sports Women's Ice Hockey Championship
The 2020 U Sports Women's Ice Hockey Championship was scheduled to be held March 12–15, 2020, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to determine a national champion for the 2019–20 U Sports women's ice hockey season. The tournament was cancelled after two semi-final games had been played due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the cancellation, the 2020 U SPORTS women’s hockey championship was named the SCORE! Alberta Pandas
The Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas are the sports teams that represent the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Alberta athletics teams have won a total of 93 national championships, including 79 U Sports sanctioned sports, making it one of the most successful programs in the country. History The University of Alberta has featured varsity teams since the school's inception in 1908, notably with the men's ice hockey team first playing a season of six games during that school year. UBC Okanagan Heat
The UBC Okanagan Heat are the athletic teams that represent the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna, British Columbia and currently compete in the Canada West conference of U Sports. The Heat field varsity teams in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and volleyball. History The Heat received probationary membership in Canada West in 2010 and had the men's and women's volleyball and men's and women's basketball teams begin competition there in the 2011–2012 season. U Sports Women's Volleyball
U Sports women's volleyball is the highest level of amateur play of indoor volleyball in Canada and operates under the auspices of U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport). 41 teams from Canadian universities are divided into four athletic conferences, drawing from the four regional associations of U Sports: Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CW), Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS). U Sports Men's Volleyball Championship
The U Sports men's volleyball championship is an annual tournament that features the top eight men's volleyball teams from among competing Canadian universities in U Sports. 11 games are played over a period of three days culminating in a national championship being awarded. The champion is awarded the Tantramar Trophy, named after the Tantramar Marshes in New Brunswick, which was donated in 1967 by Mount Allison University. The 2022 champions are the Alberta Golden Bears, who have won nine championships in program history. 2019 U Sports Men's Volleyball Championship
The 2019 U Sports Men's Volleyball Championship was held March 15–17, 2019, in Quebec City, Quebec, to determine a national champion for the 2018–19 U Sports men's volleyball season. The tournament was played at PEPS at Université Laval. It was the 12th time that Laval had hosted the tournament, which is the most out of any program. This was also the first tournament to no longer feature an Atlantic University Sport champion as that conference had withdrawn from men's volleyball competition in 2018. The Brandon Bobcats are the athletic teams that represent Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. The University of Saskatchewan began in 1907 and has operated teams that compete with others since 1911. The term Huskie Athletics is defined as those student athletes from the University of Saskatchewan that compete in elite interuniversity competition administered by U Sports and its members, both as regions and as individual institutions. The Calgary Dinos are the athletic teams that represent the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. They were known as the "Dinosaurs" but usually referred to as the "Dinos" until 1999, when the name was officially shortened. Some of its venues are the Jack Simpson Gymnasium (basketball m/w, volleyball m/w, track and field m/w), McMahon Stadium (football, soccer m/w), Hawkings Field (field hockey), University of Calgary Aquatic Centre (swimming, often shortened to Aquatic Centre) and a 200m Running Track (cross-country and track & field practices). U Sports Women's Soccer
U Sports women's soccer is the highest level of play at the university level under the auspices of U Sports, Canada's governing body for university sports. As of the 2021 season, 53 teams from Canadian universities are divided into four conferences, drawing from the four conferences of U Sports: Canada West, Ontario University Athletics, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, and Atlantic University Sport. After interconference playoffs have been played, eight teams compete for the Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy, awarded to the U Sports women's soccer championship winner.
