Mount Rooper is a coastal locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Mount Rooper had no population. Geography Mount Rooper is a mountainous headland with three main peaks which are (from north to south) Notch Hill, Mount Merkara, and Mount Rooper (221 metres). Notch Hill is high and was named in May 1881 by Captain John Fiot Lee Pearse Maclear ( Royal Navy) of HMS Alert because, when viewed from the east, the peak appears to have a notch. Mount Merkara is and was also named by Maclear in May 1881 after the RMS Merkara which they met on its first voyage as part of the Queensland Royal Mail Line between Australia and London. The mountain Mount Rooper is and named in 1932 by Lieutenant Commander C.G. Little ( Royal Australian Navy) during a survey. Cannonvale, Queensland
Cannonvale is a coastal locality in the Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Cannonvale had a population of 5,716 people. Geography Pioneer Bay (part of the Coral Sea, ) forms the northern boundary of the locality. Pigeon Island is a marine island () within Pioneer Bay. It is a roosting area for the Nutmeg pigeon which migrate south to the Whitsundays in large numbers in the summer months each year. Conway National Park
Conway is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 911 km northwest of Brisbane. The park's main feature is the Conway Peninsula which is covered by the largest area of lowland tropical rainforest in Queensland outside Tropical North Queensland. Walk-in bush camping is permitted however there are no established camp sites. There are a number of walking tracks graded from easy to moderate. The average elevation of the terrain is 44 meters. Flora and Fauna Among the plant species in the park are dry vine thicket, mangroves, open forests with a grasstree understorey, paperbark and pandanus woodlands and others. Shute Harbour is a coastal locality and harbour in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland, Australia. In the , Shute Harbour had a population of 122 people. Geography Shute Harbour is in sheltered port for small vessels located approximately 10 kilometres east of Airlie Beach. Serving mainly as a boarding point for ferries between the Whitsunday Islands and the mainland, it is also home to many charter boat operations and provides the best access to many Whitsunday island resorts and campsites.
