Mount Murray is a mountain in New South Wales, Australia with an elevation of 780 metres above sea level. It is located six kilometres outside Robertson. The mountain is named after Sir George Murray. Mount Murray is also the name of a location at the top of the Macquarie Pass on the Illawarra Highway. According to the , it had a population of 54. Southern Highlands, New South Wales
The Southern Highlands, also locally referred to as the Highlands, is a geographical region and district in New South Wales, Australia and is 110 km south-west of Sydney. The entire region is under the local government area of the Wingecarribee Shire. The region is also considered a wine region. The region specifically is the area centred on the commercial towns of Mittagong, Bowral, Moss Vale, Bundanoon and Robertson as well as the historic town of Berrima. Knights Hill (New South Wales)
Knights Hill is a hill that is part of the Illawarra Range with an elevation of AMSL. The peak is located 8 km South-west of Albion Park and comprises several other small hills, atop a plateau adjacent to the escarpment edge. Atop the plateau are TV antennas and a small farm. The name first appeared in a map by Surveyor Robert Hoddle, after whom the Hoddles Track is named. Hoddle first surveyed the region in the early 19th century. The hill can be seen from the coastal plain to the North as far as Stanwell Park. Mount Murray Railway Station
Mount Murray is a heritage-listed former railway station in Mount Murray on the Unanderra to Moss Vale railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The station is listed on local and NSW State Heritage Registers as a rare surviving example of small station infrastructure. The platform is located on a passing loop, which is still in use today. History The station was opened with the line on 20 August 1932, as part of the war effort for a long crossing loop for heavy World War II traffic. The platform was constructed from pre-cast concrete and the single small station building was of timber. The crossing loop was reopened and extended to following the installation of CTC in the 1980s. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. Illawarra Highway
Illawarra Highway is a short state highway in New South Wales, Australia. It connects Wollongong to the Southern Highlands and links Princes Highway and Hume Highway. It is named after the geographical area it crosses, the Illawarra region. Route Typical scenery is beautiful as it crosses the Macquarie Valley (Shellharbour) and the spectacular Macquarie Pass, with many hairpin bends and steep gradients, unsuitable for large and articulated vehicles. Trucks are instead advised to use the Mount Ousley Road (route B88), also known as Picton Road. The pass has one of the southernmost stands of Australia's sub tropical rainforest. Macquarie Pass
Macquarie Pass is an eight-kilometre-long section of the Illawarra Highway passing through Macquarie Pass National Park. It was opened in 1898, though had been used by the Wodi Wodi tribe. Macquarie Pass links the Southern Highland town of Robertson to the coastal town of Albion Park, descending the Illawarra Escarpment via a very narrow bitumen roadway, which has several single-lane sections and is mostly two lanes with double "no overtaking" lines. It is in the Shellharbour local government area. This section of roadway is very steep, and contains many hairpin bends, resulting in buses and trucks needing to reverse on some of the bends. The pass is quite notorious for accidents due to its nature, and drivers and riders are required to be cautious. After heavy rain, the Macquarie Pass can be closed due to flooding on the top half of the pass. George Murray (British Army Officer)
Sir George Murray (6 February 1772 – 28 July 1846) was a British soldier and politician from Scotland. Background and education Murray was born in Perth, Scotland, the second son of Sir William Murray, of Ochtertyre, 5th Baronet (see Murray Baronets), and was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh. His mother was Lady Augusta Mackenzie, youngest daughter of the Jacobite George, 3rd Earl of Cromartie. His elder brother was Sir Patrick Murray, 6th Baronet.
