Mount Mourne is an unincorporated community in Iredell County, North Carolina, United States. Mount Mourne is located on North Carolina Highway 115, southwest of Mooresville. The Mount Mourne post office was originally established on April 5, 1805 with James Houston as postmaster. It has been in continuous operation since 1805 and currently has a ZIP code of 28123.Lewis, J.D.; The community was named by early settlers after Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. Rufus Reid (1787-1854) built the Mount Mourne Plantation in Mount Mourne in 1836. It is still standing. Wood Lawn, also known as Woodlawn, is a plantation house built in 1836 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located near Mount Mourne, Iredell County, North Carolina north of Davidson, North Carolina, the house was built about 1840 and is an example of the Federal-Greek Revival style of architecture often built in the Piedmont area during this period. The George Houston House, also known as the "Wall-Houston House", is a private historic home between Mooresville and Davidson, North Carolina in Iredell County that was built in 1818. The original portion of the home was built with log construction, and several later additions, including a 19th-century ell. In its nomination, the home's original Federal-style construction was noted as being highly representative of the idiosyncrasies found in home designs in Iredell County and the North Carolina Piedmont during the Federal era. Coddle Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Session House and Cemetery is a historic Associate Reformed Presbyterian church located near Mooresville in Iredell County, North Carolina, United States. The first church building was constructed in 1753 and destroyed by fire in 1839. Its replacement was destroyed by fire in 1884 and the current structure was built. The church building is a one-story, three bay by five bay, Late Italianate style frame building. It features an entrance tower with louvered vents, four cross gables with wooden finials at peak, and bracketed eaves. Also on the property is the contributing session house, built about 1884, and the church cemetery with about 250 gravestones. Mount Mourne Plantation is a former Southern plantation and historic house located in Mount Mourne, Iredell County, North Carolina. Rufus Reid (1797–1854) was an American plantation owner, businessman and politician from North Carolina. Biography Early life Rufus Reid was born in 1797 in Catawba Springs, North Carolina, Catawba Springs Lincoln County, North Carolina. His father, Captain John Reid, served in the American Revolutionary War of 1775-1783 and owned much of the land in Catawba Springs. His mother was named Sara.
