Mount Iō (Yatsugatake)
is a mountain on the border of Chino and Minamimaki, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. This mountain is one of the major mountains of Yatsugatake Mountains. Mount Iō literally means, ''sulphur mountain''. Outline Mount Iō is a stratovolcano in Southern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group. This mountain also belongs to the Yatsugatake-Chūshin Kōgen Quasi-National Park. Southern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group
, also known as just Yatsugatake is a volcanic group of inactive volcanoes located on the border of Nagano Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture on Honshū in Japan. Description The Southern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group is part of the Yatsugatake Mountains. The southern group is defined as the mountains south of the Natsuzawa Pass. The highest peak of the mountains is Mount Aka and the elevation is 2,899 metres. The southern Yatugatake mountains are steep and have alpine characteristics. Yatsugatake Mountains
The are a volcanic mountain range on the border between Nagano Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture on the island of Honshū in Japan. Description The mountain range consists of two volcanic groups, Northern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group and Southern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group. The two volcanic groups of Yatsugatake, North and South, have different characteristics. The North Yatsugatake mountains are gradual and lower while the South Yatsugatake mountains are steep and are more alpine in nature. Yatsugatake-Chūshin Kōgen Quasi-National Park
is a quasi-national park on Honshū in Japan. It is rated a protected landscape (category V) according to the IUCN. The park includes the Yatsugatake Mountains and the surrounding lava plateaus: Tateshina plateau, Kirigamine, and Utsukushigahara. It straddles the border between Nagano and Yamanashi prefectures. Mount Aka is the highest point in the park at 2,899 m. The volcanoes of the Yatsugatake mountains erupted from the middle of the Fossa Magna ( ja) and spread skirts of lava south, east and west. Lake Matsubara, Shirakoma Pond, and Lake Shirakaba attract tourists to the region for boating, skating, and camping.
