Mount Ignatiev
Mount Ignatiev ( bg, Игнатиев връх, Ignatiev vrah, ) is a peak rising to 1220 m in the Srednogorie Heights on Trinity Peninsula, Antarctic Peninsula. It is situated 3.3 km south-southeast of Corner Peak, 8.96 km east-southeast of Hanson Hill, 12.1 km north of Sirius Knoll and 7.17 km southwest of Crown Peak and surmounts Trajan Gate to the east, Malorad Glacier to the north and Russell West Glacier to the south. The peak is named after the settlement of Graf Ignatievo in southern Bulgaria, in connection with the Russian diplomat Count Nikolay Pavlovich Ignatyev, Nikolay Ignatyev (1832-1908). Malorad Glacier
Malorad Glacier ( bg, ледник Малорад, lednik Malorad, ) is the 14 km long and 10.5 km wide glacier on Trinity Peninsula, Antarctic Peninsula. Situated north of Russell West Glacier, and bounded by Marescot Ridge to the northeast, Louis-Philippe Plateau to the southeast, Srednogorie Heights to the south and Hanson Hill to the southwest. Draining northwestwards to enter Bransfield Strait east of Cape Roquemaurel and west of Thanaron Point. The glacier is named after the settlement of Malorad in northwestern Bulgaria. The Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica (CGA) of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is the authoritative international gazetteer containing all Antarctic toponyms published in national gazetteers, plus basic information about those names and the relevant geographical features. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. Bulgarian names in Antarctica Geographical names in Antarctica reflect the history and practice of Antarctic exploration. The nations involved in Antarctic research give new names to nameless geographical features for the purposes of orientation, logistics, and international scientific cooperation. Nikolay Pavlovich Ignatyev
Count Nikolay Pavlovich Ignatyev (historical spelling: ''Nicolai Ignatieff''; russian: Граф Никола́й Па́влович Игна́тьев; – ), a Russian statesman and diplomat, became best known for his aggressive expansionism in support of Russian imperialism. In dealing with China, he secured a large slice of Chinese territory by the multi-lateral Treaty of Peking in 1860. As the Russian ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1864 to 1877, he worked to stir up pan-Slavic feeling and nationalism against the Ottomans, and had some responsibility for the Bulgarian rebellion of April 1876. He encouraged his government to declare war on Turkey in 1877, and after the decisive Russian victory he negotiated the Treaty of San Stefano in 1878. It heralded greatly strengthened Russian influence in the Balkans. However Britain and Austria intervened and forced the retraction of the treaty. Graf Ignatievo
Graf Ignatievo (, ) is a village in Maritsa Municipality, southern Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 2015 inhabitants. The village is named after a Russian diplomat- Count Nikolai Pavlovich Ignatiev, who played an important role as an ambassador of Russia in Istanbul for the conclusion of the Treaty of San Stefano that called for the creation of Greater Bulgaria. Russell West Glacier
Russell West Glacier () is a glacier, 11 nautical miles (20 km) long and 4 nautical miles (7 km) wide, which lies immediately north of Detroit Plateau and flows from Mount Canicula, Verdikal Gap and Trajan Gate westward into Bone Bay on the north side of Trinity Peninsula. This glacier together with Russell East Glacier, which flows eastward into Prince Gustav Channel on the south side of Trinity Peninsula, form a through glacier across the north part of Antarctic Peninsula. It was first surveyed in 1946 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). Named by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) for V.I. Russell, surveyor and leader of the FIDS base at Hope Bay in 1946. Srednogorie Heights ( bg, Средногорски възвишения, Srednogorski vazvisheniya, ) are the heights rising to 1220 m (Mount Ignatiev) on the northwest side of Trinity Peninsula, Antarctic Peninsula. Crown Peak
Crown Peak () is an ice-covered peak, high, topped by a conspicuous crown-shaped ice formation. It forms the highest summit and the south end of the Marescot Ridge on the northwest side of the Trinity Peninsula.
