In Greek mythology, two sacred mountains are called Mount Ida, the "Mountain of the Goddess": Mount Ida (Crete), Mount Ida in Crete, and Mount Ida (Turkey), Mount Ida in the ancient Troad region of western Anatolia (in modern-day Turkey), which was also known as the ''Mount Ida (Turkey), Phrygian Ida'' in classical antiquity and is mentioned in the ''Iliad'' of Homer and the ''Aeneid'' of Virgil. Mount Ida College
Mount Ida College was a private college in Newton, Massachusetts. In 2018, the University of Massachusetts Amherst acquired the campus and renamed it the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst. History The Mount Ida School for Girls, once a high school, became a finishing school and was founded in 1899 by George Franklin Jewett, and was named after the hill on which it was located in Newton Corner, Massachusetts. After encountering severe financial difficulties, it was forced to close during the Great Depression, but was purchased by William Fitts Carlson in 1939 and relocated to its present location in the Oak Hill section of Newton. The first junior college level courses were offered at Mount Ida in the mid-1900s, and the school was officially re-branded as a junior college in 1961. Mount Ida is a former parliamentary electorate in the Otago region of New Zealand, from 1871 to 1893, and then from 1902 to 1908. Population centres The Representation Act 1900 had increased the membership of the House of Representatives from general electorates 70 to 76, and this was implemented through the 1902 electoral redistribution. In 1902, changes to the country quota affected the three-member electorates in the four main centres. The tolerance between electorates was increased to ±1,250 so that the Representation Commissions (since 1896, there had been separate commissions for the North and South Islands) could take greater account of communities of interest. These changes proved very disruptive to existing boundaries, and six electorates were established for the first time, and two electorates that previously existed were re-established, including Mount Ida. Mount Ida is an abandoned town located in the Goldfields-Esperance region in Western Australia. It is found between Mount Magnet and Leonora Named after a geographical feature situated about 21 km south of the town which was named by the explorer John Forrest while on expedition in the area in 1869. It is thought to be named after a lady friend of Forrest. Gold was later discovered in the area in the 1895 resulting in a gold rush and by 1896 the town boasted a population of 200. Mt Ida (Ellicott City, Maryland)
Mt Ida is a historic home in Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. Mt. Ida was built for William Ellicott, grandson of one of the city's founding brothers, Andrew Ellicott in 1828. It was built by Charles Timanus, who was also the principal builder of the neighboring Patapsco Female Institute and the Howard County Courthouse. Judge John Snowden Tyson and family lived at the residence from the 1850s, with his daughter Ida Tyson, for whom the mansion is now named, remaining in the house until the age of 90 in the 1920s. Ownership passed hands again to John Ward Wilson, then the influential Clark Family Commissioner Charles E. Miller attempted to rezone the property to convert the mansion into office buildings in 1972. As of 2013, the mansion was owned by the Miller Land Company. Mount Ida, also known as the Walker Reynolds House, was an antebellum mansion, built in the Greek Revival style beginning in 1840 by Walker Reynolds, between Sylacauga and Talladega in rural Talladega County, Alabama, United States. History Walker Reynolds was a wealthy planter and promoter of Talladega and Talladega County. He was born August 28, 1799, in Warren County, Georgia, and died January 18, 1871, in Talladega County. He came to Alabama in 1832, and settled among the Indians in Talladega County. In 1849 he was elected to the legislature on the Whig ticket, and during his service there, he succeeded in securing the passing of a charter giving to the county a railroad running through its entire length, then known as Alabama & Tennessee River Railway, and afterwards as the Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad.
