Mount Eerie Dances With Wolves
''Mount Eerie Dances with Wolves'', also known as ''Two New Songs of Mount Eerie'', is an EP by Mount Eerie. It was released in Australia as ''Two New Songs'' in 2004 and released in the United States as ''Dances with Wolves'' in 2005. Recording and release The two songs were recorded live to acetate at Melbourne's Corduroy Records, a former pressing plant in suburban Melbourne. Elverum was joined by members of Architecture In Helsinki, Midnight Juggernauts, Ground Components and Eddy Current Suppression Ring in two largely improvised performances. 200 12" records were pressed in time for sale at the Melbourne show a week later. The record was initially released by three labels - Art School Drop Out, Bee Vamp and Elverum's own P.W Elverum & Sun album. Each of the initial records came with an individually hand-painted cover by Elverum himself. Reception The album received a generally positive reception. Mount Eerie
Mount Eerie is the musical project of American songwriter and producer Phil Elverum. Elverum (also of The Microphones) is the principal member of the band, but has collaborated with many other musicians on his records and in live performances. Most of Mount Eerie's releases have been issued on Elverum's label P.W. Elverum & Sun, Ltd., and feature highly detailed packaging with his own artwork. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Phil Elverum
Philip Whitman Elverum (; born May 23, 1978) is an American musician, songwriter, record producer and visual artist, best known for his musical projects The Microphones and Mount Eerie. Based in Anacortes, Washington, in the mid-2000s he began to spell his surname Elvrum as "Elverum". Life Phil Elverum was born on May 23, 1978, in Anacortes, Washington. Growing up, Elverum's father regularly made mixtapes for him and his sister. He soon started to play the tuba but after three years moved onto drums. At age 14, he started his own band "Nubert Circus", playing the drums and writing lyrics. Elverum attended Anacortes High School. After graduating, he traveled across Canada with his then-girlfriend. Seven New Songs Of "Mount Eerie"
''Seven New Songs of "Mount Eerie"'' is the debut EP by Mount Eerie, released on June 1, 2004. Recording and release It was recorded in Anacortes, Washington in the months of May and June 2004 intended for the July 2004 tour of Australia. It was released on 196 CD-Rs in photocopied covers, all of which were sold out on the tour. Free audio downloads of the EP were later made available. It's been reported to have been downloaded over 36,000 times. Several songs from the EP have later appeared on other Mount Eerie releases in different versions: "Wooly Mammoth's Absence" (retitled as "Wooly Mammoth's Mighty Absence"), "With My Hands Out" and "My Burning" were re-recorded for ''Dawn'' while "Wooly Mammoth's Mighty Absence" and "With My Hands Out" were also re-recorded for '' Eleven Old Songs'' and ''Lost Wisdom'' respectively. Corduroy Records
Corduroy Records was a vinyl record pressing plant and record label that existed from 1994–2005 in Highett, Victoria, Australia. The Corduroy pressing plant was established by Nick Phillips of the garage rock band The Breadmakers who saved Australia’s only vinyl pressing plant from the scrap dealers in Sydney and had it relocated to Highett, Victoria. Staff members of Corduroy included several people who were active in Australian bands and record labels, including Mikey Young and Brendan Huntley of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Guy Blackman of Chapter Music, Richard Stanley of Aarght Records, Mark Nelson of The Stabs and Saucerlike Records, Conrad Standish of The Devastations, Shaun Gionis of Boomagates, Brendan Webb of Sandpit, Kellie Laing of Wig Wam Records, and Kim Walvisch of Humber Records. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019.
