Mount Currie (British Columbia)
Mount Currie, known as Ts̓zil () in the St'at'imcets (Lillooet) language, is the northernmost summit of the Garibaldi Ranges in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Its north face dominates the "skyline" of the Pemberton Valley and is one of the peaks visible from the Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Area just southwest. Mount Currie is the namesake of Mount Currie, British Columbia and the adjoining Mount Currie Indian Reserve, home of the Lil'wat First Nation. The mountain was named for John Currie, the first permanent non-indigenous settler in the Pemberton Valley, who homesteaded the Currie Ranch (a.k.a. Mount Currie, British Columbia
Mount Currie is in the Squamish-Lillooet region of southwestern British Columbia. On BC Highway 99, the locality is by road about north of Vancouver, northeast of Whistler, and southwest of Lillooet. The Lillooet Tribal Council governs the First Nations portion. The relatively smaller freehold part is an unincorporated community. The latter business centre approximately encompasses an area where the Macrea Road/Highway 99 intersection forms the southwest corner and the Pemberton Portage Road/Highway 99 intersection forms the northeast corner. The First Nations reserves straddle the Birkenhead River. The eastern portion of the reserves extends north to the same latitude as the Owl Creek community but is well back from the river at that point. Lil'wat Nation
The Lil'wat First Nation ( lil, líl̓watǝmx), a.k.a. the Lil'wat Nation or the Mount Currie Indian Band, is a First Nation band government located in the southern Coast Mountains region of the Interior of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is a member of the Lillooet Tribal Council, which is the largest grouping of band governments of the St'at'imc or Stl'atl'imx people (a.k.a. the Lillooet people). Other St'at'imc governments include the smaller In-SHUCK-ch Nation on the lower Lillooet River to the southwest, and the independent N'quatqua First Nation at the near end of Anderson Lake from Mount Currie, which is the main reserve of the Lil'wat First Nation, and also one of the largest Indian reserves by population in Canada. Mount Currie is a mountain summit located in the upper Spray River Valley of southern Banff National Park, in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. Mount Currie's nearest higher peak is Red Man Mountain, to the southwest on the Continental Divide. History Mount Currie was named in 1918 for General Sir Arthur William Currie (1875–1933), the first Canadian commander of the Canadian Corps and later the Canadian Army during World War I. The mountain's name was made official in 1924 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Geology Mount Currie is composed of sedimentary rock laid down during the Precambrian to Jurassic periods and was later pushed east and over the top of younger rock during the Laramide orogeny. Mount Currie is a mountain in the southwest of the Northern Territory, Australia, with an elevation of . It is part of the same line of conglomerate hills that includes Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa. These three formations have very similar compositions. The sheet of conglomerate that is shared by all three is called Mount Currie Conglomerate. The peak was named Mount Currie by the explorer William H. Tietkens, who led an expedition through the area in 1889. He named the peak from a distance, and did not actually approach it.
