Mount Carmel Township, Pennsylvania
Mount Carmel Township is a township located in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. Erected in 1854, it was named after Mount Carmel in Israel and was formed from part of Coal Township. It contains the boroughs of Mount Carmel, Kulpmont, and Marion Heights within its borders. The population at the 2010 Census was 3,139, an increase over the figure of 2,701 tabulated in 2000. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 22.0 square miles (57.0 km2), of which 21.8 square miles (56.5 km2) is land and 0.2 square mile (0.5 km2) (0.82%) is water. Its villages include: Atlas, Beaverdale, Connorsville, Den Mar Gardens, Diamondtown, Dooleyville, Locust Gap, Merriam, Mount Carmel Estates, Natalie, Oak Ridge Estates, Reliance, Shady Acres, and Strong.
