Mount Calavite
Mount Calavite is a peak located in the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. It measures in elevation and is situated in its namesake headland, Cape Calavite, which forms the northwestern extremity of Mindoro. The mountain overlooks the municipality of Paluan in the south and the Lubang Island group in the Verde Island Passage in the north. It is one of only three areas in the island where Mindoro dwarf buffalos, commonly known as ''tamaraws'', are found. Protected area Mount Calavite is located in an protected area known as ''Mount Calavite Wildlife Sanctuary''. It was first declared as a game refuge and bird sanctuary in 1920 to protect the natural habitat of the endemic Mindoro tamaraw. Tamaraw
The tamaraw or Mindoro dwarf buffalo (''Bubalus mindorensis'') is a small hoofed mammal belonging to the family Bovidae. It is endemic to the island of Mindoro in the Philippines, and is the only endemic Philippine bovine. It is believed, however, to have once also thrived on the larger island of Luzon. The tamaraw was originally found all over Mindoro, from sea level up to the mountains (2000 m above sea level), but because of human habitation, hunting, and logging, it is now restricted to only a few remote grassy plains and is now a critically endangered species. Scarlet-collared Flowerpecker
The scarlet-collared flowerpecker (''Dicaeum retrocinctum'') is a species of bird in the family Dicaeidae, about 10 cm long and is endemic to the Philippines. It is found only in Mindoro, usually occurring below 1000m in the canopy and edge of the forest and in open country with scattered trees. The call is a series of notes similar to striking two stones together plus a high-pitched `zeet zeet zeet`. It is closely related to the red-keeled flowerpecker (''Dicaeum australe'') but has a longer, more slender curved beak. Spotted Imperial Pigeon
The spotted imperial pigeon (''Ducula carola''), also known as the grey-necked imperial pigeon, is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. Endemic to the Philippines, it lives in forests and forest edges but goes down to the limestone shorelines possibly to feed. It is a vulnerable species threatened by habitat loss and hunting. Mindoro Hornbill
The Mindoro hornbill (''Penelopides mindorensis'') is a species of hornbill in the family Bucerotidae. It is endemic to forests on Mindoro in the Philippines found in tropical moist lowland forests. As is the case with all Philippine tarictic hornbills, it was once considered a subspecies of '' P. panini''. It is the only tarictic hornbill where both sexes are creamy-white and black. The sexes are very similar, differing primarily in the colour of the ocular ring (pinkish-white in the male, blue in the female). Mindoro Bleeding-heart
The Mindoro bleeding-heart (''Gallicolumba platenae''), also referred to as ''kulo-kulo,'' ''la-do'', ''manatad'', ''manuk-manuk'', ''punay'', and ''puñalada'' by the Mangyan, is a species of ground dove native solely to the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. It is Critically Endangered, critically endangered and threatened by habitat loss largely motivated by marble extraction. Due to its biological line and its survival status, it has been listed as an EDGE species by the Zoological Society of London. Verde Island Passage
The Verde Island Passage is a strait that separates the islands of Luzon and Mindoro in the Philippines, connecting the South China Sea with the Tayabas Bay and the Sibuyan Sea beyond.
