Mount Barker Road
Mount Barker Road was once the main road from Adelaide through the Adelaide Hills to Mount Barker on the eastern slopes of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The main route has now been replaced, or subsumed into, the South Eastern Freeway, but two sections of it remain, and are still classified as state roads. Route A vestigial portion of Mount Barker Road exists through the "Old Toll Gate" at Glen Osmond, but has completely subsumed into the South Eastern Freeway as far as the Devil's Elbow, where a surviving western alignment of the road turns a sharp hairpin and has a winding uphill through Eagle On The Hill and rejoins South Eastern Freeway near Measday's Hill in Crafers West. The eastern portion of Mount Barker Road resumes from the freeway's Stirling exit, passing through the main shopping strips of Stirling and Aldgate as State Route B33. South Eastern Freeway
South Eastern Freeway is a freeway in South Australia (SA). It is a part of the National Highway network linking the state capital cities of Adelaide, SA, and Melbourne, Victoria, and signed as National Highway M1. It carries traffic over the Adelaide Hills between Adelaide and the River Murray, near Murray Bridge, where it is connected via the Swanport Bridge to the Dukes Highway, which is the main road route to Victoria. It was formerly signposted as Princes Highway, which refers to the coastal route from Adelaide to Sydney via Melbourne. It is often referred to by South Australians simply as the Freeway, as it was the first freeway in South Australia, and is still the longest, and the only one with "Freeway" in its name rather than "Expressway" or "Highway". Totness, South Australia
Totness consists mainly of industrial zoned areas. It is commonly referred to as Mount Barker or Littlehampton but is actually a locality of Mt Barker that was cut off from the rest of the town by the construction of the South Eastern Freeway in 1977. There is no street sign indicating you are entering Totness. Its windmill is the oldest surviving building in the - Mt Barker area. It is about from Mount Barker Post Office, and from Littlehampton Post Office, but the towns have almost merged due to growth. It is also home to the Totness Recreation Park. Totness was first subdivided in the 1880s, without regard to its contours. ''The Naracoorte Herald'' is a weekly newspaper first published in Naracoorte, South Australia on 14 December 1875. It was later sold to Rural Press, previously owned by Fairfax Media, but now an Australian media company trading as Australian Community Media. Meningie is a town on the south-east side of Lake Albert in South Australia. It is on the Princes Highway near The Coorong and was surveyed in 1866. At the , the locality of Meningie had a population of 1118 with a median age of 51 while its town centre had a population of 852. History The word ''Meningie'' is derived from "the Aboriginal word 'meningeng' meaning 'place of mud'". The town was surveyed between March and June 1866 by W. Farquhar without any proclamation. Langhorne Creek (formerly Langhorne's Creek) is a town in South Australia. At the 2016 census, Langhorne Creek had a population of 427. Mylor, South Australia
Mylor (postcode 5153) is a small village in the Adelaide Hills. History Mylor was surveyed in 1885, with a plan to develop the land as a focal point for orchard development in South Australia. The town was proclaimed in 1891 by Acting Governor of South Australia Sir James Boucaut who named it after his Cornish birthplace of Mylor. Early inhabitants were strict Methodists, and due to their temperance belief no country pub was established, a quirk which has persisted into the current day.
