Mouns Jones House
The Mouns Jones House, also known as the Old Swede's House, is an historic, American home that is located in Douglassville, Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. History and architectural features Built in 1686, this historic structure is a -story, three-bay, stone dwelling. It measures by and features a brick chimney for a large, kitchen fireplace. It is the oldest surviving house in Berks County and one of the few remaining examples of a Swedish settler's dwelling. Douglassville, Pennsylvania
Douglassville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Amity Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. Douglassville is situated along U.S. Route 422 and Pennsylvania Route 724. Developments include the Amity Gardens subdivision, the West Ridge subdivision, the Briarwood subdivision, and the High Meadow subdivision. Douglassville also includes Cider Mill and the Woods Edge subdivision along Pennsylvania Route 562. As of the 2010 census, the population of the CDP was 448 residents. History Swedish pioneers were the first European settlers in present Berks County on land granted by William Penn. Swedish Lutheran Minister Andreas Rudman secured an order from William Penn on October 21, 1701 setting aside up the Schuylkill, near Manatawny Creek, for members of his congregation. Swedish Americans ( sv, svenskamerikaner) are Americans of Swedish ancestry. They include the 1.2 million Swedish immigrants during 1865–1915, who formed tight-knit communities, as well as their descendants and more recent immigrants. Amity Township is a township in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The population was 13,435 at the 2020 census. Amity Township, especially in the Douglassville area, is seeing growth in development. The township was so named for the cordial relationship, or amity, between Swedish settlers and the local Native Americans. History The boundaries of Amity Township are almost identical to the boundaries of the original area known as Swedes’ tract. During December 1699, Lutheran pastor Andreas Rudman had met with Governor William Penn. Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
Harpers Ferry is a historic town in Jefferson County, West Virginia. It is located in the lower Shenandoah Valley. The population was 285 at the 2020 census. Situated at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, where the U.S. states of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia meet, it is the easternmost town in West Virginia.
