Gerard Moultrie
Gerald Moultrie was a Victorian public schoolmaster and Anglican hymnographer born on 16 September 1829 in Rugby Rectory, Warwickshire, England. He died on 25 April 1885 in Southleigh, England, aged 55. Biography His father, John Moultrie was also a hymn writer. He was educated at Rugby School and Exeter College, Oxford. He received his BA in 1851 and his MA in 1856 from Oxford. Taking Holy Orders, he held a number of positions. He became Third Master and Chaplain in Shrewsbury School; Chaplain to the Dowager Marchioness of Londonderry (1855–59); Curate of Brightwalton (1859); and of Brinfield, Berkshire (1860); Chaplain of the Donative of Barrow Gurney, Bristol (1864); Vicar of Southleigh (1869); and Warden of St. James’ College, Southleigh (1873). John Moultrie (politician)
John Moultrie (18 January 1729 – 1798) was an English politician who served as deputy governor of East Florida in the years before the American Revolutionary War. He became acting governor when his predecessor, James Grant, was invalided home in 1771 and held the position until 1774. Moultrie again became a deputy under his successor, Patrick Tonyn, returning to Great Britain in 1784. Early life and education Moultrie was one of five brothers who became a doctor after obtaining a medical degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1749. Personal life Moultrie was married twice, first to Dorothy Mortin in 1753 and later to Eleanor Austin in 1762. Moultrie moved to East Florida in 1767 and became a planter. Following the Revolutionary War and the loss of Florida by the British, Moultrie moved to England and died there in 1798. He was buried at Shifnal Church in Shropshire. John Moultrie (1799–1874) was an English clergyman, known as a poet and hymn-writer. Early life and education He was born in Great Portland Street, London, on 31 December 1799, at the house of his maternal grandmother, Mrs Fendall; he was the eldest son of George Moultrie, rector of Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire, by his wife Harriet (died 1867). His father was the son of John Moultrie of South Carolina. After preliminary education at Ramsbury, Wiltshire, Moultrie was sent to Eton College in 1811. John Keate, whom he annoyed by a visit to Thomas Gray's monument at Stoke Poges, was then headmaster. Among his friends were William Sidney Walker, Lord Morpeth, Richard Okes, John Louis Petit, Henry Nelson Coleridge and Edward Coleridge, and Winthrop Mackworth Praed. William Moultrie
William Moultrie (; November 23, 1730 – September 27, 1805) was an American planter and politician who became a general in the American Revolutionary War. As colonel leading a state militia, in 1776 he prevented the British from taking Charleston, and Fort Moultrie was named in his honor. After independence, Moultrie advanced as a politician; he was elected by the legislature twice within a decade as Governor of South Carolina (1785–87, 1792–94), serving two terms. (The state constitution kept power in the hands of the legislature and prohibited governors from serving two terms in succession.) Seafield Tower is a ruined castle on the North Sea coast of Fife in Scotland (). The monument is also referred to as a ' Medieval Tower House'. The tower is located on the route of the Fife Coastal Path. History Built in the 16th century (c. 1542), Seafield Tower lies between Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy in Fife, Scotland.
