"Motor City (I Get Lost)" is the first single from Australian supergroup Company of Strangers. The single was released in July 1992 and peaked at number 26 in Australia in September 1992. It features the vocals of Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1993, the song was nominated for 'breakthrough artist single' award, but lost out to "Ordinary Angels" by Frente! Frente! (or Frente) were an Australian folk- pop and indie pop group which originally formed in 1989. The original line-up consisted of Simon Austin on guitar and backing vocals, Angie Hart on lead vocals, Tim O'Connor on bass guitar (later rep .... Video A video was also created. Company Of Strangers (group)
Company of Strangers were a short-lived rock, pop music studio project formed by Simon Hussey in late 1991. The album featured performances by Daryl Braithwaite (ex- Sherbet) on vocals, Simon Hussey (ex-Cats Under Pressure, Australian Crawl) on keyboards, drums, engineering and production, Jef Scott on guitar and vocals, and James Reyne (ex-Australian Crawl) on vocals and guitar. Their debut self-titled album appeared in December 1992 via Sony Music Australia with Hussey producing. It peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified gold in 1993 for shipment of 35000 copies. They released four singles, "Motor City (I Get Lost)" (July 1992), " Sweet Love" (November 1992), " Daddy's Gonna Make You a Star" (January 1993) and their cover version of the Beatles' "Baby, You're a Rich Man" (June 1993). James Reyne
James Michael Nugent Reyne OAM (born 19 May 1957) is an Australian rock musician and singer-songwriter both in solo work and, until 1986, with the band Australian Crawl. Biography Early years Reyne was born in Lagos, Nigeria. His father, Rodney Michael Reyne, was an English-born former Royal Marine, who served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of the state of Victoria, Sir Dallas Brooks, and subsequently worked for British Petroleum. His paternal grandfather, Cecil Nugent Reyne, was an English rear admiral. His mother, Judith Graham, née Leask, was a teacher. His younger brother, David Reyne, was also born in Nigeria. The family moved to Victoria in late 1959, where a younger sister Elisabeth was born. Frente! (or Frente) were an Australian folk- pop and indie pop group which originally formed in 1989. The original line-up consisted of Simon Austin on guitar and backing vocals, Angie Hart on lead vocals, Tim O'Connor on bass guitar (later replaced by Bill McDonald), and Mark Picton on drums (later replaced by Alastair Barden, then by Peter Luscombe). In August 1991, they issued their debut extended play, ''Whirled'', which included the track, "Labour of Love". Daryl Braithwaite
Daryl Braithwaite (born 11 January 1949) is an Australian singer. He was the lead vocalist of Sherbet (1970–1984 and many subsequent reunions). Braithwaite also has a solo career, placing 15 singles in the Australian top 40, including two number-one hits: "You're My World" (October 1974) and "The Horses" (January 1991). His second studio album, ''Edge'' (November 1988), peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, No. 14 in Norway and No. 24 in Sweden. In 2017, Braithwaite was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
