''Mother o' Dreams'' is a 1921 American silent Western film produced by Cyrus J. Williams and distributed by Pathé Exchange. It was directed by Robert North Bradbury and stars Tom Santschi and Ruth Stonehouse. This short film was part of the "Santschi Series", which included the other short films ''The Honor of Rameriz'', ''The Spirit of the Lake'', '' The Heart of Doreon'', and ''Lorraine of the Timberlands'', all of which starred Santschi. There is an unrelated 1914 Essanay short film with the same title which starred Richard C. Travers, Gerda Holmes, and Bryant Washburn. Plot Wandering artist (Santschi) encounters a young girl (Stonehouse) and her grandmother who are being victimized by the grandmother's son, who seeks to take control of her property. The artist intervenes, preserving the grandmother's property, independence, and ability to care for her granddaughter. Robert North Bradbury
Robert North Bradbury (March 23, 1886 – November 24, 1949) (born Ronald E. Bradbury) was an American film actor, director, and screenwriter. He directed 125 movies between 1918 and 1941, and is best known for directing early "Poverty Row"-produced Westerns starring John Wayne in the 1930s, and being the father of noted "cowboy actor" and film noir tough guy Bob Steele. Bradbury variously billed himself as "Robert North Bradbury", "R.N. Bradbury", or "Robert Bradbury". He died in Glendale, California, on November 24, 1949, at age 63. Work with John Wayne Bradbury is most famous for directing early Westerns starring John Wayne. ''The Heart of Doreon'' (also known as ''In the Heart of Doreon'' and misspelled as ''The Heart of Dorean'') is a 1921 American silent short Western romantic drama film produced by Cyrus J. Williams and distributed by Pathé Exchange. It was directed by Robert North Bradbury and stars Tom Santschi and Ruth Stonehouse. Bryant Washburn
Franklin Bryant Washburn III (April 28, 1889 – April 30, 1963) was an American film actor who appeared in more than 370 films between 1911 and 1947. Washburn's parents were Franklin Bryant Washburn II and Metha Catherine Johnson Washburn. He attended Lake View High School in Chicago. Washburn's early acting experience came in stock theater. He debuted in film in 1911 with Essanay Studios. He quickly became a comedy star after appearing in films such as ''Skinner's Baby'' and ''Skinner's Dress Suit'' in 1917. His second marriage was to actress Virginia Vance. They had a child together. He died from a heart attack in Hollywood. His interment was located in Culver City, California's Holy Cross Cemetery. His son, Bryant Washburn, Jr. (1915–1960), was also an actor, a major in the US Air Force Reserve, served during World War II and Korea, and predeceased him. Gerda Holmes, née Gerda Helen Elfrida Henius (April 2, 1891 – October 11, 1943), was an actress during the silent film era and in theater. She had major roles in numerous films including '' The Fable of Elvira and Farina and the Meal Ticket'' (1915) and ''The Iron Ring'' (1917) with Arthur Ashley. Holmes was Danish Her grandfather managed the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen for more than two decades, and her father was a doctor in Chicago. She studied music in Denmark and began performing on stage there at about age 14. Her first marriage was to Rapley Holmes. The Essanay Film Manufacturing Company was an early American motion picture studio. The studio was founded in 1907 in Chicago, and later developed an additional film lot in Niles Canyon, California. Its various stars included Francis X. Bushman, Gloria Swanson and studio co-owner, actor and director, Broncho Billy Anderson. It is probably best known today for its series of Charlie Chaplin comedies from 1915-1916. In the late 1916 it merged with other studios and stopped issuing films in the fall of 1918. According to film historian Steve Massa, Essanay is one of the important early studios, with comedies as a particular strength. Founding The studio was founded in 1907 in Chicago by George K.
