''Mother Love'' (French: ''La chaleur du sein'') is a 1938 French comedy drama film directed by Jean Boyer and starring Michel Simon, Arletty and Gabrielle Dorziat.The A to Z of French Cinema p.396 It was based on a play by André Birabeau. It was shot at Pathe's Francoeur Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Jacques Colombier. Synopsis The eighteen-year-old son of a celebrated, widowed archaeologist attempts to commit suicide while his father is away on an expedition in Egypt due to being spurned by a cabaret performer. His three prospective stepmothers all gather at his bedside, each demonstrating a possessive attitude. François Périer
François Périer (born François Pillu; 10 November 1919 – 29 June 2002), was a French actor renowned for his expressiveness and diversity of roles. He made over 110 film and TV appearances between 1938 and 1996, with notable excursion into the French avant-garde. He was also prominent in the theatre. Among his best-known parts was that of Hugo in the first production of Jean-Paul Sartre's '' Les Mains Sales'' in 1948. He was the narrator of the French-language version of ''Fantasia'', and made several commercial audio recordings (with commentary) popularizing classical music in France. Monique Joyce
Monique Joyce (1912–1994) was a French model, singer and actress.Burch & Sellier p.157 She began her career appearing in Opéra comique. After winning the Mademoiselle Paris contest in March 1933 she received greater public attention and made her first film appearance that year. During the Occupation of France she appeared in several productions by the German-backed Continental Films that later led to charges of collaboration. Her final role was a supporting part in the 1943 film ''Late Love'' directed by Gustav Ucicky and made in Vienna. Following the Liberation of Paris in 1944 she headed to the Sigmaringen enclave where the Vichy government in exile was headquartered for the final months of the war.
