Mosquito Fire
The Mosquito Fire was a large wildfire that burned in California's Placer and El Dorado counties as the state's largest wildfire of 2022. The fire began on September 6, above Oxbow Reservoir in the Middle Fork American River drainage on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. The Mosquito Fire went on to burn , destroying 78 structures in the small, rural communities of Michigan Bluff, Foresthill, and Volcanoville. It was declared 100% contained on October 22, more than a month and a half later, well after the fire's progression was halted. During the first week of the fire's spread, more than 11,000 people were placed under evacuation orders and more than 9,000 structures were threatened. Cumulonimbus Flammagenitus
The cumulonimbus flammagenitus cloud (CbFg), also known as the pyrocumulonimbus cloud, is a type of cumulonimbus cloud that forms above a source of heat, such as a wildfire or volcanic eruption, and may sometimes even extinguish the fire that formed it. It is the most extreme manifestation of a flammagenitus cloud. According to the American Meteorological Society’s Glossary of Meteorology, a flammagenitus is "a cumulus cloud formed by a rising thermal from a fire, or enhanced by buoyant plume emissions from an industrial combustion process." Analogous to the meteorological distinction between cumulus and cumulonimbus, the CbFg is a fire-aided or –caused convective cloud, like a flammagenitus, but with considerable vertical development. The Fairview Fire is a deadly and destructive wildfire that burned during the 2022 California wildfire season southwest of Valle Vista and east of Hemet in Riverside County, California in the United States. A flammagenitus cloud, also known as a flammagenitus, pyrocumulus cloud, or fire cloud, is a dense cumuliform cloud associated with fire or volcanic eruptions. A flammagenitus is similar dynamically in some ways to a firestorm, and the two phenomena may occur in conjunction with each other. However, either may occur without the other. Formation A flammagenitus cloud is produced by the intense heating of the air from the surface. The intense heat induces convection, which causes the air mass to rise to a point of stability, usually in the presence of moisture.
