There are 3,943 mosques in Thailand as of March 2018. The Southern region has the most share in the kingdom with 3,340 mosques or roughly 85% of all mosques. In term of provinces; Pattani Province has the biggest share at 707 mosques, following by Narathiwat Province at 666 mosques, and Yala Province at 509 mosques, whilst the capital city, Bangkok, has 183 mosques. Ton Son Mosque
Ton Son Mosque ( th, มัสยิดต้นสน) is a historic mosque affiliated with the Sunni religion of Islam. Located on the left bank of Khlong Bangkok Yai canal, Wat Arun Subdistrict, Bangkok Yai District, Bangkok's Thonburi side, opposite Wat Moli Lokayaram temple, across the canal is Bang Luang Mosque. The ancient mosque was founded in the Ayutthaya era during the reign of King Narai in 1688 by Chao Phraya Ratchawangsanseni (Mahmud). It is considered the oldest mosque in Bangkok and Thailand. The first name was called "Kudi Yai" (กุฎีใหญ่), an abbreviation of "Kudi Bangkok Yai" (กุฎีบางกอกใหญ่). It was originally a teak house raised on a platform and roofed with terracotta tiles. The form of the architecture is similar to the hall in Buddhist monasteries. Khlong Chan Mosque
A ''khlong'' ( th, คลอง, ), alternatively spelt as ''klong'' () commonly refers to a canal in Thailand. These canals are spawned by the rivers Chao Phraya, Tha Chin, and Mae Klong, along with their tributaries particularly in the low-lying areas of central Thailand. The Thai word ''khlong'' is not limited to artificial canals. Many smaller rivers are referred to as "''khlong''" followed by the name of the stream. Khlongs in Bangkok there are 1,682 canals in Bangkok, totalling 2,604 kilometres in length. Nine canals are primary flood drainage conduits. In years past, the Thai capital was crisscrossed by khlongs, and so gained the nickname "Venice of the East". Khlongs were used for transportation, for floating markets, but also for sewage disposal. A mosque (; from ar, مَسْجِد, masjid, ; literally "place of ritual prostration"), also called masjid, is a place of prayer for Muslims.
