Moskau (song)
"Moskau" (German for Moscow) is the second single by German Eurodisco group Dschinghis Khan (known as ''Genghis Khan'' in Australia and other countries) released in 1979. The band also recorded an English version, which they released in 1980 as "Moscow". History "Moskau" achieved enormous popularity in the Soviet Union. A 15-second clip of the song's performance was shown as a part of the New Year holiday lineup on the state-run TV, leading to the immediate dismissal of the network's director. In 2006, the song made its video game debut as a playable song in ''Taiko no Tatsujin'' Portable 2. On September 15, the song was uploaded to YouTube, and it quickly became an internet meme related to Slavs. Most prominently, the meme was circulated on the image macro site YTMND, accompanied by the song's chorus or variations of it. Dschinghis Khan
Dschinghis Khan (; " Genghis Khan") was a German Eurodisco pop band. It was originally formed in Munich in 1979 to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest with their song "Dschinghis Khan". The original group led by original members Henriette Strobel and Edina Pop ended in 2020 after the death of fellow member Johannes Kupreit, while a more current version of the group led by original member Wolfgang Heichel and Stefan Track (who replaced the deceased Louis Potgieter in the 2005 reunion concert) has been active since 2018. The Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was the 54th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Moscow, Russia, following the country's victory at the with the song "Believe (Dima Bilan song), Believe" by Dima Bilan. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Channel One Russia, Channel One (C1R), the contest was held at the Olympic Stadium (Moscow), Olimpiysky Arena, and consisted of two semi-finals on 12 and 14 May, and a final on 16 May 2009. Kari Tapio
Kari Tapani Jalkanen (22 November 1945 – 7 December 2010), better known by his stage name Kari Tapio, was a Finnish schlager and country & western singer. During his career, he was one of the most popular singers in Finland for decades; having sold over 830,000 certified records (during his career and posthumously), he is the best-selling soloist in the country. Kari Tapio was born in Suonenjoki, Finland. In the 1960s he performed in his home town Pieksämäki with the local bands ER-Quartet and Jami & The Noisemakers. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. Leslie Mándoki
László "Leslie" Mándoki (born 7 January 1953) is a German-Hungarian musician who became known as a member of the music group Dschinghis Khan. He continued his career as a solo artist and became a music producer who worked with many internationally famous artists. Early life Mándoki studied drums and percussion at the musical conservatory of Budapest in the early 1970s. At the same time he was a band leader for the local jazz-rock group JAM, citing groups like Cream and Jethro Tull as his influence. In July 1975, Mándoki, along with animation filmmaker Gábor Csupó (the creator of ''Rugrats'') and others, fled from Hungary to Munich, West Germany to avoid prosecution by the communist regime for being a member of the student opposition.
