Morumugão Sub-District
Morumugão Sub-District is an administrative subdivision (tehsil) of Goa, India, headquartered at Mormugao. It is the state's only ''taluka'' (tehsil) to have all four modes of transport—air, road, rail, and sea. History Morumugão was one of the first places to be conquered and incorporated into the ''Velhas Conquistas'' of the Portuguese Empire in the East. Taluka
A tehsil (, also known as tahsil, taluka, or taluk) is a local unit of administrative division in some countries of South Asia. It is a subdistrict of the area within a district including the designated populated place that serves as its administrative centre, with possible additional towns, and usually a number of villages. The terms in India have replaced earlier terms, such as '' pargana'' (''pergunnah'') and ''thana''. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, a newer unit called mandal (circle) has come to replace the system of tehsils. It is generally smaller than a tehsil, and is meant for facilitating local self-government in the panchayat system. In West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, community development blocks are the empowered grassroots administrative unit, replacing tehsils. Sancoale
Sancoale is a census town in South Goa district in the Indian state of Goa. It falls within the Sub-District of Mormugão and the Velhas Conquistas region. It is famous for being the hometown of Joseph Vaz, the patron saint of Sri Lanka. Churches Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Saúde (1560) It is also known as Our Lady of Health Church or the Old Church of Sancoale, in English. It was built by Jesuit missionaries who arrived at Sancoale in 1560 to settle there. By way of commemorating, their occupation they established the a chapel of Nossa Senhora de Saúde. The construction of the chapel was completed in 1566 and it was elevated to the level of a church in. The Church building caught fire in 1834, and today only a part of the church's façade stands on the banks of the Zuari River, and can be seen even from the Agassaim – Cortalim Bridge. Quelossim
Quelossim is a village in Mormugao taluka, South Goa, India. This village was known as ''Kardalipura'' in ancient times and had a beautiful temple dedicated to the Mother-Goddess Shri Shantadurga and Shri Kavale Math which was shifted to Kavale 450 years ago when the Portuguese demolished the shrine as a part of the inquisition. The original temple was built by a Goud Saraswat Brahman trader Anu Shenvi Mone, but was destroyed during the religious persecution period around 1566 AD. Today the exact location can be accessed from NH66 via Kesarval Spring en route to Rassaim or Loutolim, where one can see a few architectural ruins, in the form of the original temple lake.
