Morris Clinton House
Morris Clinton House is a historic home located at Newark Valley in Tioga County, New York. It was built in 1881 and is an L-shaped, -story, frame house, with a 2-story wood shed wing at the north end of the rear ell. In 1882, the house was featured in an agricultural journal as an example of progressive rural architecture. Also on the property are a milk house, two small livestock sheds, and a garage or small carriage house. Newark Valley (town), New York
Newark Valley is a town in Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 3,660 at the 2020 census. The town is named after the city of Newark, New Jersey. The Town of Newark Valley contains a village also named Newark Valley. The town is located in the northeast part of the county and is northwest of Binghamton. History The first permanent settlers arrived around 1791. This area was called Brown's Settlement and was part of the Town of Berkshire until it was organized as the "Town of Westville" in 1823. In 1824, the town changed its name to "Newark," at the suggestion of a settler from New Jersey, but then changed the name to Newark Valley in 1862, to avoid conflict with the name of a village in Wayne County. Tioga County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,455. Its county seat is Owego. Its name derives from an American Indian word meaning "at the forks", describing a meeting place. Tioga County is part of the Binghamton, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1789, Montgomery County was reduced in size by the splitting-off of Ontario County. The actual area split off from Montgomery County was much larger than the present county, also including the present Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Steuben, Wyoming, Yates, and part of Schuyler and Wayne counties.
