Francis Goold Morony Stoney
Francis Goold Morony Stoney (5 April 1837 - 7 August 1897) was a Victorian era Irish engineer, noted for his work on sluice design. Early life and education Francis Goold Morony Stoney was born on 5 April 1837 at Arran Hill (sometimes Arranhill), County Tipperary, the son of Thomas George Stoney, a Justice of the peace. He was educated at Queen's College in Belfast before being articled to John Macneill, a railway engineer. Career Stoney later became manager of the Dundalk Ironworks. In 1865 he was employed by a Clyde-based shipbuilding company to work in Peru, on the Callao Floating Dock. He returned to England before departing for India in 1868, working as a contractor on the Madras Railway, and later as personal assistant to the Chief Engineer of the Madras Navigation and Canal Company. Morony Dam
Morony Dam is a hydroelectric gravity dam located on the Missouri River in Cascade County, Montana. The dam is long and high, and generates 49 megawatts (MW) of power. Overview The dam is named after John G. Morony,Peterson, p. 74. a banker, director of the Amalgamated Copper Company (a forerunner of the Anaconda Copper Company), and director of the Montana Power Company. (Morony was largely responsible for constructing Ryan Dam.) Morony Dam was built by the Phoenix Utility Company.Aarstad, et al., p. 182. Montana Power commissioned the dam in order to provide additional power to the Anaconda Copper's zinc refinery at nearby Great Falls, Montana. General Sir Thomas Lovett Morony (23 September 1926 – 27 May 1989) was a British Army General who reached high office in the 1980s. Military career Morony was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1947. His first senior appointment was as Director of the Royal Artillery in 1975. He was then appointed, in 1978, Commandant of the Royal Military College of Science. In 1980 he was made Vice Chief of the General Staff and in 1983 he was appointed UK Military Representative to NATO. He was also Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery from 1978 and of the Royal Horse Artillery from 1982.
