1997 Rugby World Cup Sevens
The 1997 Rugby World Cup Sevens was the second edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament and the first to be held in Hong Kong. It was the last major sporting event to be held in the then British dependency before the transfer of sovereignty to China which took place just three months later. Fiji defeated South Africa 24–21 to take the title for the first time. The final is considered to be one of the best sevens matches of all time. 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens – Men's Tournament
The men's tournament in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held at AT&T Park in San Francisco. New Zealand won the tournament and took home the Melrose Cup by defeating England 33–12 in the final; South Africa won the bronze by defeating Fiji 24–19. The tournament was dominated by the World Series core teams, which accounted for all eight of the teams that reached the quarterfinals. The 2011 South Africa Sevens was the 13th edition of the tournament and was part of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. After nine seasons at George in the Western Cape, the competition moved to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. New Zealand won the title by defeating South Africa 31–26 in the final. Format The teams were divided into pools of four teams, who played a round-robin within the pool. The 2002 Hong Kong Sevens was an international rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Hong Kong Stadium between 22–24 March 2002. It was the 27th edition of the Hong Kong Sevens and was the seventh tournament of the 2001–02 World Sevens Series. Twenty-four teams competed in the tournament and were separated into six groups of four with the top eight teams qualifying through to the cup tournament. After winning their three group matches, England went on to win their first Hong Kong title defeating Fiji in the final by a score of 33–20.
