Morlunda (Greenbrier County, West Virginia)
Morlunda, also known as the Col. Samuel McClung Place and Oscar Nelson Farm, is a historic home located near Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. It was built in 1827–1828, and consists of a main house with ell. The main house is a two-story brick building measuring 56 feet long and 21 feet deep. The ell measures 48 feet and it connects to a -story formerly detached kitchen. It was built during 1827–1828 under direction of contractor and architect John W. Dunn. Interior woodwork was done by wood-carver Conrad Burgess and associates. Burgess and Dunn worked together on a number of houses, including Mountain Home. Lewisburg is a city in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,930 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Greenbrier County. Geography Lewisburg is located approximately one mile north of the Greenbrier River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Much of it is within the karst belt and a sinkhole is gated over at an intersection. It is part of the Davis Spring subwatershed. Lewisburg is part of the Southern West Virginia region. Greenbrier County () is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 32,977. Its county seat is Lewisburg. The county was formed in 1778 from Botetourt and Montgomery counties in Virginia. History Prior to the arrival of European-American settlers around 1740, Greenbrier County, like most of West Virginia, was used as a hunting ground by the Shawnee and Cherokee nations. They called this land ''Can-tuc-kee''. Shawnee leaders, including Pucksinwah and later his son Tecumseh, were alarmed by the arrival of the European settlers, who by 1771 had set up extensive trade in the area. Mountain Home, also known as Locust Hill and Robert Dickson House, is a historic home located near White Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. It was built about 1833, and is a large, two-story brick dwelling with a kitchen ell. It features a two-story, one-bay lunette-adorned pediment with plastered brick Doric order paired columns. It has Late Federal and Roman Revival elements on both the exterior and interior. It was built by "Greenbrier Valley master builder" John W. Dunn and includes mantels and other woodwork done by master wood-carver Conrad Burgess. Morlunda (Greenbrier County, West Virginia) is another of their joint works.
