Morley Bell
Morley Myers Bell (January 14, 1894 – July 2, 1976) was a lawyer and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1946 to 1947 and from 1956 to 1959 as a Liberal. He was born in Tryon, Prince Edward Island, the son of Donald Bell and Eva Myers, and was educated at Prince of Wales College. Bell served overseas during World War I. The Prince Edward Island Liberal Party (officially the ''Prince Edward Island Liberal Association'') is a political party in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The PEI Liberals are affiliated with the federal Liberal Party of Canada. History The party was created when PEI was a British colony by reformers who agitated for the system of responsible government. This was granted by the British crown to the colony in 1851. George Coles was its dominant figure in its first decades. Tryon, Prince Edward Island
Tryon is an unincorporated area in Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Situated on Route 1 and Route 10, it lies within the township of Lot 28 which in 2006 had a population of 880 people. Tryon is not far from Crapaud, Prince Edward Island. The area is mostly rural. In 1856, Charles E. Stanfield and his brother-in-law Samuel Dawson founded Tryon Woollen Mills in Tryon. Charles sold his interest to Samuel a decade later and moved to Truro, Nova Scotia where he founded the well-known Stanfields Underwear, which still operates. Tryon was named after William Tryon (1729-1788) an American colonial governor who also served in Canada. There are two churches: one Baptist, and one United. Both are noted architectural works by William Critchlow Harris. The Tryon United Church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990. Prince Of Wales College
Prince of Wales College (PWC) is a former university college, which was located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. PWC merged with St. Dunstan's University in 1969 to form the University of Prince Edward Island. PWC traces its history to 1804 when land was set aside by Lieutenant-Governor Edmund Fanning for a college - the colony's first. In 1821 a district school called the National School opened on the site located on Kent Street in the east end of Charlottetown. In 1835 Central Academy opened on a site along Grafton Street, immediately south of the National School. The National School closed in the early 1850s and the provincial Normal School for training teachers opened on the site in 1856. In 1860 the Central Academy was upgraded and renamed Prince of Wales College (PWC) in honour of a visit to the colony that year by the Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward VII. John Howatt Bell
John Howatt Bell (December 13, 1846 – January 29, 1929) was a lawyer and politician who served as the 14th premier of Prince Edward Island. Bell was born in Cape Traverse, the son of Walter Bell and Elizabeth Howatt. He was educated at Prince of Wales College and at Albert College in Belleville. After studying law, he was called to the Ontario bar in 1874 and set up practice in Ottawa, Ontario. He moved to Manitoba, was called to the bar there and set up practice in Emerson. In 1882, he married his first cousin, Helen, the daughter of Cornelius Howatt. He returned to Prince Edward Island, was called to the bar, and set up practice in Summerside. Summerside is a Canadian city in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is the second largest city in the province and the primary service centre for the western part of the island. Ernest Strong
Ernest Henry Strong (September 26, 1886 – August 7, 1961) was a lawyer, judge and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1944 to 1945 as a Conservative. He was born in Crapaud, Prince Edward Island, the son of C. Edward Strong and Sarah Davis Ellison, and the grandson of William G. Strong. He was educated at Prince of Wales College. Strong was called to the bar in 1912.
