Morganton Aggies
The Morganton Aggies were a minor league baseball team based in Morganton, North Carolina from 1948 to 1952. Morganton teams played exclusively as members of the Western Carolina League, winning the 1951 league pennant. The Aggies played home minor league games at Morganton High School Park. History Morganton, North Carolina first hosted league baseball play in 1948. The Morganton "Aggies" became charter members of the eight–team Class D level Western Carolina League. The Forest City Owls, Hendersonville Skylarks, Lenoir Red Sox, Lincolnton Cardinals, Marion Marauders, Newton-Conover Twins and Shelby Farmers joined Morganton as charter members. Beginning play on April 30, 1948, the Morganton Aggies placed 3rd in league regular season play. The North Carolina State League was a "Class D" league in Minor League Baseball. The original version of the league existed from 1913–1917 as the successor to the Carolina Association. Burke County, North Carolina
Burke County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 87,570. Its county seat is Morganton. Johnny Temple
John Ellis Temple (August 8, 1927 – January 9, 1994) was a Major League Baseball second baseman who played for the Redlegs/Reds (1952–59; 1964); Cleveland Indians (1960–61), Baltimore Orioles (1962) and Houston Colt .45s (1962–63). Temple was born in Lexington, North Carolina. He batted and threw right-handed. Temple was a career .284 hitter with 22 home runs and 395 RBI in 1420 games. A legitimate leadoff hitter and four-time All-Star, he was a very popular player in Cincinnati in the 1950s. Throughout his career, he walked more often than he struck out, compiling an outstanding 1.92 walk-to-strikeout ratio (648-to-338) and a .363 on-base percentage. TheSouthern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL) is a non-profit, wooden bat Collegiate summer baseball, collegiate summer league affiliated with the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball. Established in 1999, the league has six teams located in the Charlotte metropolitan area of North Carolina and South Carolina. College baseball, College players from four-year institutions (NCAA and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, NAIA) as well as junior and community colleges are eligible to play. Summer Collegiate Baseball
Collegiate summer baseball leagues are Amateur baseball in the United States, amateur baseball leagues in the United States and Canada featuring players who have attended at least one year of college and have at least one year of athletic eligibility remaining. Generally, they operate from early June to early August.
