Moreau Lake State Park
Moreau Lake State Park is a state park in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The park is located in the southwest part of the town of Moreau on US 9 off Interstate 87. It features over of hiking trails. Winter activities include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skating and ice-fishing. A historic cabin at the park was rehabilitated and turned into a winter warming lodge. Summer activities include swimming in Moreau Lake, fishing, hiking, or paddling on the Hudson River. Camping is available in the spring, summer, and fall. Moreau Lake has 148 campsites, three cottages and a group camp for up to 35 people. There are also pavilions for rent for parties, a concession stand, a nature center and a museum. Glens Falls, New York
Glens Falls is a city in Warren County, New York, United States and is the central city of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 14,700 at the 2010 census. The name was given by Colonel Johannes Glen, the falls referring to a large waterfall in the Hudson River at the southern end of the city. Glens Falls is a city in the southeastern corner of Warren County, surrounded by the town of Queensbury to the north, east, and west, and by the Hudson River and Saratoga County to the south. Moreau, New York
Moreau is a town in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 13,826 at the 2000 census. The town is located in the northeast part of the county, north of Saratoga Springs. Moreau is named after Jean Victor Moreau, a French general, who visited the area just before the town was formed. The town contains a village called South Glens Falls. History The town, although part of the town of Northumberland until 1805, was first settled around 1766 at what is now the village of South Glens Falls. Grant Cottage State Historic Site, the last home of Ulysses S. Grant, former President and army general, is on the grounds of Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility. Grant spent the last weeks of his life there, finishing his memoirs. Interstate 87 (New York)
Interstate 87 (I-87) is a north–south Interstate Highway located entirely within the US state of New York. It is most of the main highway between New York City and Montreal. Hudson River
The Hudson River is a river that flows from north to south primarily through eastern New York. Mount McGregor (mountain)
Mount McGregor is a mountain in Saratoga County, New York in the towns of Wilton, Moreau, and Corinth. It is one of the principal peaks of the Palmertown Range. There are two lakes on the mountain, Lake Bonita and Lake Anna, which were previously used for fishing. History The mountain was originally called ''Palmertown Mountain'', named by a band of Native Americans who moved to the area from Massachusetts escaping from the aftermath of King Philip's War. It was renamed after Duncan McGregor purchased it for back taxes and built a hotel called the ''Mountain House'' in 1876. In 1881 McGregor sold the mountain to the Saratoga, Mount McGregor and Lake George Railroad, owned by Joseph William Drexel. Drexel constructed a narrow-gauge railroad from Saratoga Springs and built the ''Hotel Balmoral'' at the summit with accommodation for 300 guests. In 1897 the hotel burned to the ground.
