A siding, in rail terminology, is a low-speed track section distinct from a running line or through route such as a main line, branch line, or spur. It may connect to through track or to other sidings at either end. Sidings often have lighter rails, meant for lower speed or less heavy traffic, and few, if any, signals. History Murchison East station opened on 1 September 1890, just over ten years after the railway line from Mangalore to Shepparton opened. The station became a junction in the month that it opened, when the line to Rushworth opened, branching off at the southern ( up) end of the station. Toolamba is a closed railway station on the Goulburn Valley railway in the town of Toolamba, Victoria, Australia. The station opened as a junction at the same time as the railway from Mangalore to Shepparton on 13 January 1880, with the line to Tatura opening on the same day.
