Moorland
Moorland or moor is a type of habitat found in upland areas in temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands and montane grasslands and shrublands biomes, characterised by low-growing vegetation on acidic soils. Moorland, nowadays, generally means uncultivated hill land (such as Dartmoor in South West England), but also includes low-lying wetlands (such as Sedgemoor, also South West England). It is closely related to heath, although experts disagree on what precisely distinguishes these types of vegetation. Generally, moor refers to highland and high rainfall zones, whereas heath refers to lowland zones which are more likely to be the result of human activity. Moorland habitats mostly occur in tropical Africa, northern and western Europe, and neotropical South America. Most of the world's moorlands are diverse ecosystems. Carlton-le-Moorland
Carlton-le-Moorland, is a long-established village and civil parish in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England, between the town of Newark-on-Trent and the city and county town of Lincoln. The parish population at the 2011 census was 565. Heritage Carlton-le-Moorland is listed in the ''Domesday Book'' as having of 29 households, of meadow, and a church. The parish church is a Grade I listed building dedicated to Saint Mary. It dates from the 11th century, but the nave and tower were rebuilt in the late 16th century. It was restored in 1890–1891 by C. Hodgson Fowler. The font is from the 12th century. Outside, the Grade II listed lychgate was installed in 1918 as a war memorial. St Lazarus Hospital, a leper colony in Carlton-le-Moorland founded before 1180, was maintained by the Order of Saint Lazarus. It is not known when it closed. Northmoor Green is a village in south central Somerset, England, that is more commonly known as Moorland, and sometimes mistakenly called Fordgate even though it is a separate hamlet. These places being hamlets of Moorland in the civil parish of North Petherton. It is the only village in the United Kingdom with two official names on an OS Map (Northmoor Green or Moorland) Set in the heart of the Somerset levels it has the River Parrett running next to it. It has fewer local amenities than it used to; the village shop, school and post office have closed leaving only a church, village hall and an out of village pub, ''The Thatchers Arms''. Moorland Township is a civil township of Muskegon County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,627 at the 2020 census. Geography The township is in southeastern Muskegon County, bordered to the north by Newaygo County and at its southeast corner by Ottawa County. State highway M-46 crosses the township, leading west to Muskegon, the county seat, and east to Kent City. HM Prison Moorland (formerly HM Prison Moorland Closed) is a Category C men's prison and Young Offenders Institution, near Hatfield Woodhouse in South Yorkshire, England. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service, and is jointly managed with the nearby Hatfield Prison. History In March 2005, Moorland Prison was subjected to rioting when more than 40 inmates refused to return to their cells. It took four hours and the intervention of staff and officers from neighbouring institutions to quell the situation. In August 2006, a report from Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons stated that both Moorland and Hatfield Prisons were well managed, and provided "a safe and respectful environment" for inmates and staff, but the report also claimed that the regime at Moorland Prison was "over-punitive and under-motivating".
